    3. Hi Sally, I have some information on the Brackin/Bracken family in New Castle County, Delaware. But it is later. Several years ago I sent to the Delaware Archives for a copy of the marriage bond for Jane Barcken, spinster, and John Reeceof MillCreek Hundred, dated 18 April 1781. On the bond with John Reece is his brother in law, Jeremiah Springer, who was married to Mary Reece, the daughter of Lewis Reece and his wife Sarah Lewis. I also have a copy of Jane Bracken Reece's will, recorded January 12, 1836, which was witnessed by Henry Brackin and William McDowell. Hope this is some help. 1. [NewCastle] Naturalization lookups in Delaware Co., PA
    2. Hi List(s), I do not mind doing lookups for the Irish immigrants who came from Co. Donegal & were naturalized in Delaware Co., PA! But please do NOT ask me to give you all the COLLINs or all the BONNERs just incase they may fit somewhere in your family line. I usually receive an e-mail back telling me, "thank you but no connection -- will put this in my files for future use." If you have background info on each individual -- like the following: 1. An approximate year of immigration 2. An approximate year of birth 3. A census record of all COLLINs or all BONNERs living in the same household or proximity "in Delaware Co., PA." Then I will do a lookup for ALL BONNERs - ALL COLLINs. This helps me narrow the search down for the family you are looking for. Hence, then I know all the BONNERs are all the COLLINs you asked for are related. Please do NOT ask for a lookup for a name NOT on the list. Please do NOT ask for a wife's name to be lookedup -- females were NOT naturalized before 1860. Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)

    3. One reason I like working the old stuff is that every one seems to related at least "TWICE". Yes these are my ancestors also, through Tobias, through Edward, through George via his second wife, to Addison, to George W. SMYTH/SMITH to my GM, Rosa. My paternal GM, Rosa Clara (SMYTH/SMITH) Baker was born SMYTH, but her dad, George W. SMYTH later changed it to SMITH when they lived in Wolfe Co., KY around 1908. My son and I are planning a trip to Old Swedes Church the last week in March. We will be spending a week tracing the migration of the SMYTH and several of our other lines. Thanks much for the contact. Larry E. It appears official civil records weren't required until 1911 or so (am I way off base here?). Is there anyone out there who can advise me as to whether I should hang up my family research hat on this one and quit looking? I presently live in the deep south and can't research in person on Delaware ground, so everything has to be accomplished via snail mail/e-mail. Furthermore, are birth records for the same county and state, circa 1900-1912, non-existant also? 1. [NewCastle] Delaware Birth, Death, & Marriage Records
    2. This is the home page. You will find much listed here DELAWARE PUBLIC ARCHIVES HOMEPAGE This is the page with the information you will need to find out how far back records go and infomation on having the Archives locate your particular vital record. REQUESTING RECORDS I ahve searched at the Archives many times. You state New Castle, Delaware. Are you referring to New Castle County, Delaware or New Castle, New Castle County, Delaware? Also if you are searching for Vital Records, some births, deaths and marriages are not on certificates but in "registers". For example, Wilmington, Delaware kept records in registers, this is just a recording of these vitals. The many not necessarily be a birth, marriage or death certificate but a "record" only on the register. I have looked at some of these registers. Some are so beautifully written and microfiled clearly, some look like the chickens scratched them very lightly and not only are hard to decipher their handwriting but too light to read. The Archives will do some lookups for a small fee by email. Try to give them all the info you can. Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if I can give you any more information. I can give you some other sites for Delaware information too. We are a small state but our records are pretty good. Not much is on line because no one has ever approached the Achives to microfilm or copy things in quantity. Have to run. Take care. Vickie

    3. There are no books that I know of for these years. Your best bet would be the Delaware Historical Society at: http://www.hsd.org/gengd.htm I think they will do research for a fee. or the Delaware Public Archives at: http://www.state.de.us/sos/dpa/collections/collections.shtml ------------------------------------------------------------ On Wednesday, February 4, 2004, at 10:26 AM, foxit wrote: > Hello List Members, > > I have been highly unsuccessful in locating several record types for my > aunt's family: > > John BOYER married Flora Jane DASHPER, approx 1900 in New Castle, DE. > > It appears official civil records weren't required until 1911 or so (am > I way off base here?). They had 2 children- William b. 1803 in New Castle d. 1877 in Kirkwood and Thomas Jr. died in 1810. Thomas died in 1819 in New Castle and is buried in Immanuel Churchyard. There appears to be two Thomas Magens living in New Castle during the time period of 1790-1820. Are they half brothers? Was one born in Flushing , NY and the other in the Danish West Indes? One was a doctor/apothecary in New Castle. Any new information or corrections on these lines will be greatly appreciated. Margery Magens Huemmler

    1. Re: [NewCastle] How to Post a query
    2. Dear Margery, In addition to the advice Mary gave you, make sure your subject heading is as helpful as possible. Try to put: (1a) on a location list, puts at least a family name (with a given name is even better!), OR (1b) on a family name list, put a given name (2) when available, add a location or even two. For example, if you are looking for John Smith who moved from Delaware to Indiana, you could write: John Smith: DE>IN. (3) when available, add a date or two. Examples: John Smith: DE>IN; d @ 1885 John Smith: DE>IN; son Edward b. 1862 in IN John Smith: DE>IN; lived late 1800s Many people who get a lot of messages don't open messages whose subject headi ngs aren't specific enough to show them how your request or information might relate to them. You can help ensure your message will be read if your heading is specific. ALSO: Remember to check your heading when you reply to someone's message. If your message does not match his or her heading, change your heading before you send the reply out. (For example, someone may send a message looking for John Smith and mention in the body of the message some other family name that you either know something about or want to know something about. If you reply asking about someone else or another family name mentioned in the message, don't leave John Smith's name in the heading, change it to "Daniel Jones" or "the McCullough family." MORE ADVICE: When you reply to someone's message, make sure the automatic "send to" e-mail address is correct. Some lists are set up to have the reply option list only the list address, some to list only the sender's address, some to do both. If you want to send a message off list to just the person who sent the message (which you might want to do, for example, if you are expressing sympathy but have no information to contribute to the information quest). Please, however, if you have additional information on the person or family, reply to the person if you wish to be sure he or she gets your message, but post it to the list as well so others who might be connected to your information will be able to get back to you. Enjoy! Karen In a message dated 2/1/2004 10:25:31 AM Central Standard Time, mary.yoder@verizon.net writes: > Just state who you are looking, post any dates > know, areas know.
