    1. Re: [NewCastle] Reece
    2. Hi Cathy, I read with interest about your Reese family. I guess the two of you have been communicating back and forth about this family. I am writing to the list in hopes that somebody can shed some light on questions about my Evans family. They were in Chester Co. as early as early 1800's to the best of my knowledge. Have ggggrandfather and his wife and family. One of the boys was named: Reese. This is the family: Abraham or Abram Evans- born 15 August 1786 Delaware married (Veteran of war of 1812) Rebecca ? born Pa 1793. They had ten children. One was named Reese Martin Evans. He was born 1837. His older brother was my ggrandfather William Miller Evans. He served as a Pvt. in the civil war. Just wondering how this Reese name ties in. A bit unusual for a first name. I have the names of all the children and some of the marriages. There are some popular Chester Co. names in this family. Two of the children married into the Yarnall family. Hope somebody out there will regonize one or more of these names. Thanks, Sue in Florida

    3. Hi, Other than screaming when you sent me the proof of Delia's parents, I haven't done anything else on the Reeces until today. Well, I did read each email you sent me, but didn't try to put anything together. Today I finally got down to where I could see the desktop and I pulled all my Reece emails out to study. Then I came over here to the computer to put Lewis Reece's children into my PAF - and saw that I had already added Lewis and Catherine as parents and John as grandfather. So I started going through your emails to find out how you know that Lewis was the son of John. Was he also the Lewis who was brother of Reece? I haven't yet pulled out my large Reece file, but rather worked on what was not yet filed. Tomorrow I can dig deeper. But maybe you can fill me in on John. He wasn't the John and Jane was he? I find that I have Lewis everywhere as the son of everybody!!! That St Georges property is probably the clue I'm overlooking, for I remember someone leaving a property there to someone's son. I am looking at this as Lewis, a blacksmith, had property in both St Georges and in Christiana or White Clay HD. Now to find out who the wife Catherine belonged to. Shame she was'n t one of the Lewises. She must have b een related, or maybe Lewis' mother was related for the girls to choose him as guardian. Or am I confused again? We have been home for a week and still have four more days - except for church of course. And Marion did her volunteer job today as usual at the hospital. I haven't gotten stir crazy yet, and over the last two days I've really gotten a lot of genealogy filing done. I'm proud of myself. Of course I've been ignoring all the papers I'm supposed to work up for the historical society. I've been both the auditing committee and the budget committee chairperson, plus doing my usual volunteer work, and it's had me swamped. And my "to do" "to answer" pile here at the computer is about 2 inches thick. I've always prayed that I'd always have too much to do and not be able to get bored. I dread sitting in a nursing home staring at the walls. Hope you haven't been hit by all that bad winter weather. We have been so lucky so far. Down to below zero a time or two but no snow nor ice to speak of. Today all that becomes insignificant when we hear of 40,000+ lost in tidal wave and more than that not yet accounted for. I read a novel not long ago of a tidal wave hitting California and have lived with that dread ever since. I usually stay away from scary novels. A Happy New Year to you and yours. Can you believe that Y2K wasn't just yesterday?j Cathy

    3. Hi Paula, The information I have is that the parents of John Ward Davis were probably William Davis and Margaret Ward. My information also says that his maternal grandfather was John Ward and that he inherited his property from that grandfather. Information from a family chart I found in the Historical Society of Cecil County says that his mother was Margaret Ward and that she died in 1825. Census information says that John Ward Davis's father and mother were both born in Delaware, my guess is around 1800. There must have been a will for John Ward to leave the property to his grandson - I just need to get it. I have the following: John Ward Davis was identified as the owner of "Ward's Knowledge" in the Lake, Griffing & Stevenson county atlas of 1877. Source: "At the Head of the Bay" p. 296. DEATH: John Ward Davis, Sr. John Ward Davis, Sr., died at his home near Cecilton on May 27, 1907,aged 83 years. Mr. Davis was a native of the First District, having been born on the Davis farm where he resided all his life. He followed farming successfully, and was interested in all public matters. In politics he was a Democrat, and in 1867 was elected to the House of Delegates. He was survived by three sons, to whom he made the following bequests: To John Ward Davis he bequeathed the Price farm of 307 acres; to Edgar J. Davis the Cash Corner farm; to William B. Davis the Pearce farm, and to Frances W. Davis and Mary Ellen Davis, daughters of William B. Davis, the Home farm, which was to be managed by their father until they reached the age of 21 years. Cecil County News 5/29/1907. Any information you might run across that would tie this William Davis in with one of the local Davis families from MD or DE would be very interesting. I have a hunch that he might be part of the Isaac Davis of Milford, DE descendants but haven't quite made the connection yet. 2. Could you please find a Subject that does not include the name Ridgway when that name does not appear anywhere in the text? It is misleading for those of us researching that surname, especially when we can ill-afford taking time to search all through the message for Ridgway data. Thank you, Isabel

I also have a William Biles married to Hannah Kirkbride, he is a loose/nonrelated entry on my tree until I can connect him. I found him in the Pa. Archives series 2 volume II, Marriage licenses Issued in the province of Pennsylvania. William Biles and Hannah Kirkbride, June 21, 1766 Another connection is Elizabeth Hutchins married to William Biles Thorn (3rd cousin) Theodosia Hewlings brother Joseph Hewlings and his wife Hannah Wood's daughter Rebecca Hewlings married Paul Crispin who is the grandson of Silas Crispin and Mary Stockton my 7th greats.
