I just bought a CD that has a copy of the 1859 Wilmington, DE Directory on it. It's not quite what I expected as it's a little difficult to find things. However, I am willing to look up a name for people. Just note that I may be a little slow getting back to you as I'm having houseguests for 2 weeks starting tomorrow. Rita San Diego
Hi, Delaware records are hard to find in my area. I'm looking for any and all information about the BURGIN (variant spellings Burgen, Burgan) family in Appoquinimink Hundred in the 1600s and 1700s, and would be very grateful for any help I can get. Thanks, Ramond Burgin Big Stone Gap, VA
John, I did manage to trace my family to this cemetary by way of Alexander Boyd being my gg grandfather. I already had names and dates on people and was lucky doing an Internet search to find some of these names listed on Rootsweb and found a couple of cousins in the process. Also a Genealogy journal had a list of burials from this cemetery. I must say sometimes it helps to get lucky. Months and months of research and then alittle luck there it is. Thankyou for your imput Sharon
Does anyone have access to any records for New Castle County for the years 1800 - 1835. I am looking for anything on a Johnson Nelson. I found his grave which is in Centreville,Delaware at the Lower Brandywine Presp. Church. I can't seem to find out anything else about him. He was married to Jane Hare and had a daughter Nancy who married Alexander Boyd. Thankyou for whatever you can find Sharon
Hi Sharon, I have had very good sucess sending an email to the Delaware Public Archives. Give them as much info as possible and they will tell you if they have something and what the cost of copies will be. [email protected] You might also browse the Archives' web site. Delaware Public Archives 121 Duke of York Street Dover, DE 19901 http://www.archives.state.de.us I am also for a John Welsh who died in New Castle about 1815 and could never find where he was buried. How did you find info on the cemetery you mention? John [email protected] wrote: >Does anyone have access to any records for New Castle County for the years >1800 - 1835. Thank you Linda, I do believe that Eleanor is one of my Herdman's. It is a name used with later Herdman's. I will keep this information in my collateral file. Thank you for taking the time to look this name up in your book. Best wishes, Joy

Yolanda, I do not know about published transcriptions of cemeteries, but the Delaware State Historical Society on Market Street in Wilmington has several file drawers filled with transcribed lists. Hi Josette, Quaker-roots is fully searchable, may have been down for scheduled maintenance. Search by subject within years, The historian I mentioned is Herbert Standing, I believe he is the author of the book you are seeking. John Gordon/Gorden was from Pa or possible born Ireland he was married to a (Ellen E) they had a child LuLu/LuLa Gordon she was born July 18 1875 in Phila. It is possible that Ellen E die and John Gorden married a Eliza Nealis and she was married before and John has a LuLa Gorden Daughter listed on the 1880 federal census for Wilmington, New Castle, Del page 198B .John has a brother James F Gorden Born Phila 1853 and married a Margaret Brown from Pottsville, Schuykill Co Pa. It is possible there father was a Robert James. ellie
Hello Linda, Noticed that you have a book on early church records of NC county. Would you be willing to look up the surname HERDMAN? They lived in White Clay Creek, NC county, and later Wilmington. Any Herdman is probably related although the particular interest is John, William and Benjamin. The time period is 1800-1900. I believe their religious affiliation was Presbyterian. Thank you for any help or direction. Joy
Have you looked at http://www.cyndislist.com/quaker.htm some info may be found there, also since DE was part of PA, often records can be found in PA ARchives. The book you want is sold through Old Swedes Church bookstore. It is something you should be able to order thru inter library loan, from a Delaware library or the Lib Of Congress ,site http://catalog.loc.gov/ Barbara Johnson ----- Original Message ----- From: Josette L. Maxwell Sent: Saturday, June 29, 2002 8:17 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: Carson Quakers I've already looked at the Early Church Records and have that information. Someone asserts that there is more detailed information in the Delaware Quaker Records (births/deaths etc.) on the early Carsons. What I'm doing is collecting documation/records as a basis for establishing Carson adults in the US before 1775 in an effort to maybe establish relationships and get my particular carsons back to Ireland. I did, of course, explore what was available at the Quaker Corners site. Unfortunaely, the Quaker Roots archives are apparently no longer available to be searched (along with some others). Do you by any chance have an email address for the Quaker historian? Thanks for your help Josette Maxwell Boone NC. Hello Josette, I have "Early Church Records Of New Castle County, Delaware" Vol.1, by F. Edward Wright There are Carsons there <1800, the earliest is the marriage of Richard Carson & Ann James of "Willing, New Castle Co., Willing Town" 19-8 1738 I suggest that you check out the Quaker-Roots List as there is a gentleman that is a Quaker historian who did a great deal of work in SE PA. and DE.
