3. I'd try the Historical Society, and Recreation/Park Department. You also could go surfing for Historical Markers; years ago, I found a marker online in Tallahassee, FL. If I had a chance to go to Wilmington, I'd go to Holy Trinity Church (aka "Old Swedes"). I think it was founded sometime around 1730, which I would imagine makes it among the oldest surviving masonry buildings/continuous churches in the US. It's also seen several religions. (Of course I did have an ancestor who twice married there;) I think they have a web site. They also have a whole bunch of old records, some of which are now on FTM CD. I believe there is an adjacent cemetery. 3. The old Stanton Quaker Meeting House is on Route 4 just before Telegraph Road (next to St. Mark's Methodist Church). Several years ago it was remodeled and is now a dentist's office. I remember the cemetery being in back of the Meeting House some thirty years ago- I assume it is still there. 3. Hello All, I recently found records for several family members which state they were buried at the Quaker Burying Ground at Stanton, DE. Mill Creek MM and Hockessin MM are not particularly close to Stanton so I don't think there's any confusion there, plus Mill Creek is given separately for other family members and did not exist at the time of these deaths. Can somebody please direct me to this Stanton Cemetery? I am familiar with the area as it is only a few miles away. Thank you. Alan Buckingham

    3. According to the bibliograph of AFTER THE REVOLUTION by Barbara Clark Smith, much of the work on the SPRINGER family relied on two unpublished works: William S. Pretzer, THE DELAWARE LOG HOUSE; A SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC REPORT, and Del Upton, ARCHITECTURAL SURVEY OF THE DELAWARE LOG HOUSE. Does anyone know if either of these works has been published? I would like to see or purchase THE DELAWARE LOG HOUSE if it is available. Can anyone tell me the current status of these works. Thank you for your help. Marty Fulton

    3. Wondering if anyone can tell me more about the family of William Pryce who apparently was a pastor in the mid-1800s at the Old Swedes Church in Wilmington. All I know is that he had a two daughters, Sarah Tabitha born 1797 and Margaretta Martha born 7/7/1811. William would be my ggggg-grandfather, and I'm really curious to find more about him, but I'm out in Seattle and am not sure if anything is out there that isn't costly to locate?? Thanks, Christopher

    2. ,Hello Dori, I have checked the archives in Dover in the past for obits. It seems they only have a collection of them. Im assuming from other peoples collections and compiled on microfilm. I didnt have any luck and saw no rhyme or reason to their indexing. Save your money on the phone call. No sense to make a long distance call for information that can be passed along here on line for nothing. I have had many people help me on rootswebs lists and I have sent along information also. Im grateful for their kindness and willingness to help and share. I cant afford to call everyplace that has the files and information I need. IT would be too expensive and that is why I joined these lists to share and exchange information at no cost unless someone copies, snail mails things and wants to be reimbursed for copies.. SO far I havent had to do that either. I send things at no cost and things are sent to me the same. It equals itself out in the long run since it is usually a 2 way exchange. I wish I could help you more but it looks like Alan might be your man for information and or actual obits. Good luck to you. Keep asking for what you need, that is how we get answers to mysteries and road blocks in genealogy..If you want to email the Dover Public Archives you can and ask anything you want to without the cost of a long distance call. Their email address is: [email protected] also Delaware Public Archives this is their website to see what they do have available on line, hours of operation and costs for sending copies. Let me know how you make out with you treasure hunt. Take care Vickie [email protected]

Alan Buckingham Newark, DE -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, August 23, 2002 6:00 PM To: [email protected] Subject: OBITUARIES IN DELAWARE Hi Walter and others - - - - In answer to my query as to how to obtain obituaries, several of you kind listers have directed me to the DE Archives/vitals. Do they have obituaries? I have four dates of deaths as taken from Tatnall Tombstone site ---but don't know if they are "mine". I am primarily interested in the information that might have been included in an obituary-----origin, brothers/sisters/children's names etc etc etc. I just don't think a death certificate would answer my questions, and I was guessing that is what I would get from DE Gov. archives. The names are so common (Michael Walsh m. Bridget Callahan, all "from Ireland" according to their daughter's death certificate) so there are a gazillion Michaels and Bridgets, and their death certs would not help me to identify my 2XGgps, parents of g-gma Margaret Walsh Lascomb. Many thanks to all who have given helpful hints -----great bunch of listers !!! Dori in So Calif.

    2. Dori, Regarding your need to find obituaries: You can research obituaries for Delaware, Especially New Castle County at the Wilmington Public Library at Rodney Square and at the Morris Library at the University of Delaware. They have them on micro film and they even have a list of the names of the newspapers as they have changed over the years. Good Luck Take care Vickie [email protected]

I believe they even have wills. I would write them an e-mail and make your request and see what they tell you. Hopefully this information will be helpful. Wishing you good luck. 2. Where might I write to obtain obituaries for the years 1882, 1889, 1891 and 1925 -- all one family (published in records of New Cathedral Cemetery, Wilm DE)? I have the name, age and DOD, but need whatever other information that might be included in the obituaries to determine their origins and possible relationship to my great-grandmother. Any suggestions are most gratefully appreciated, and thank you. DORI
