Hello, I am researching my ggf Gustave/Gustav/August/Augustave/Carl Gethner, Gettner, Kettner, Kettner. He married Philomena Huck circa 1880 - 1881 in or around Wilmington. He was a carpenter and cabinetmaker. He worked for companies building railroad cars. I believe he emigrated from Coswig, Anhalt, Germany around 1879 - 1880. He was an Evangelical. Thanks, Isabelle

Hi, I've posted this in the past I believe, but perhaps there are new folks on this list. I'm researching the following families of the Odessa area: primarily James MATTHEWS c1735-c1776 and his descendants. Other surnames are Henry, VanDyke, Cann, Burgess, O'Neal/O'Neill and Townsend. This seems to be a very small family. Many descendants left the Odessa area in the 1870's or so, primarily due to the peach blight, I believe. Some went south to Somerset Co., MD and some west to Kent Co., MD. I need advice on working with DE records before statehood. Many of the family are buried at Old Drawyers. I wonder if anyone on the list has noticed the new format on Ancestry. I have been searching DE records for New Castle and while I have been typing in specific information, i.e. dates, etc....I am getting many hits that are far from what I have asked for. Looking for a specific will for instance in DE between 1740 and 1790 in New Castle yielded 55 hints, most of which were 19th and 20th century. To add to the confusion one has to open each one to try and determine the date! Finally, about 2/3 of the hits were for Sussex and Kent Cos. NOT what I requested. Has anyone else been having trouble? I had always preferred the "old search" that was available years ago but I had learned to make do. NOw ...here we go again.... an update that makes searching burdensome and impractical. Does anyone know how to work this new system to narrow results? Thanks so much!! Bev W

Bev - I tried to respond to your email address but it wouldn't go through - so unfortunately have to send this to the list.... Yes I have - great stuff on my Hans Mansson line too - Dr. Peter S. Craig who has written books as well has been a tremendous resource also - so sorry to hear of his death a few years ago. I think I either joined or wanted to join (if cost too much I didn't) can't remember now. But fantastic and I'd say "the best" society for info there is!! Love it!It would be interesting to follow how you and I connect - we would be distant half cousins but still related since we have Ella in common!! I've wanted to extend out the information I have on the Yocums so if you feel like sharing let me know - or if you info is on ancestry or something let me know. My email address is susan.avery@juno.com and love to share and learn!!
