Kind of hard to think Silas as a very French name ? There are a few more Demers in the St Lawrence Co area mostly though in Ogdensburg. A good website to check for St Lawrence Co info is http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~stlawgen/index.HTM There is not a lot of information on Gouvernour which is the county it is located in though. Might interest you and maybe help. Some of the other ways of spelling Demers there were Demars, Demar, Demarse. I actually am looking for the Gareau family of that county but their daughter Delphine married Paul Demers in Ottawa in 1864 and moved to Ogdensburg about 1865/66, so that is how I know the name. You could post to the forum located on the web page, I know there are a couple of other Demers researchers on there.
