He was the son of Michel Demers and Rosalie Faucher. He died July 21, 1871, at the age of 62, at Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He received the consecration of Priest from Monsignor Signay on february 7, 1836. Immediately was named Vicar at Trois-Pistoles, P.Q., where he lived until April, 1837. He traveled to Oregon by canoe with Priest Francois-Norbert Blanchet and opened many colonies in that area. In 1846, he was named Bishop of l'Isle Vancouver and Administrator of the Diocese of Iles-de-la-Princesse-Charlotte and of New Caledonia.
