(Or, more likely, it was his middle name as they had quite a tradition of using the middle name.) I do have the christening record for Flavian (parents Antoine & Catherine Demers) and the birth record for Symphorien. In my extensive research, I never found any later record (christening or death or marriage) of any Symphorien. Also have the marriage of Flavien ("minor son of deceased Antoine Demers and Marie Proteau"), to Marguerite Andere, in Quebec 9/26/1843. They had Flavian Jr. and Mary Marguerite in Quebec, then moved to Janesville, Wisconsin, where my ancestor, Julia Demars (Demers) married name Tischer, was born. The Demers family later settled in Dubuque, Iowa. I also have his death cert but believe the age was way off because the person responsible for the obit was his son-in-law. They were married on August 19, 1889 in Somersworth, NH. On the marriage record Elise's parents are listed as Augustus and Adelarde. They had four children... Marie Delvinia, Elizabeth, Albert and Joseph. Elise died between 1893 and 1899, though I can't find a death record for her. The children were sent to an orphanage in Lawrence, MA after their mother's death and were returned to their father a couple years later. Jean Baptiste Demers was originally buried in Dobie, WI in a Catholic Church cemetery-- to the left of the church if you are facing the church. For some reason, he and his wife have 2 grave sites: 1 in Dobie (I think the head stone has been removed by family who placed it there, per the priest) and one is in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery in Rice Lake, WI. And probably yes if he is not a Demers as my family was in Quebec from 1634 on and married into many of the lines there. If you are there that early in Quebec history, you are said to be related to about 98% of the population because of the small number of people living there. My maiden name is Demers. I have never seen Damon used as a dit name for Demers, but have seen Desmers which I think is one of the spellings used on the New Hampshire census records for him.
