Augustine Birleau dit Lafleur . He went by the Lafleur name and married Julie Demers. Their daighter Georgianna married Hildege Groulx dit Sivgny It could be the the other way around ( Sivigny dit Groulx) I could be spelling the Sivigny wrong . Our branch October 12,1896 in Hull, Quebec by the pastor of the church (nameunknown at this time), was Father Grandfills. I would like to find Julie Demers Parents names and other information on andy of these people. I have all the names of Georgianna and Hildege Groulx's children. The Rose/Rosa you show in the census is too old for the one I think I am looking for, unless she lied (a lot) about her age, but I am very interested in any other information you have on this family line. I suspect, but haven't proven yet, that her father was Julius DeMerce b. 1845 in Canada (in Negaunee for the 1870 census with his wife Margaret, and sons George, Julius and Ceasar/Ceaser). Negaunee wasn't that large of a city and the similarity of names is very interesting. Is the family I am looking for part of the one you also are looking for? I hope someone out there has more information? Jenine

There are many Demers families there. I will have to go back and look for him. I was looking for Amelia's parents when I first used the census. Thanks Ceil

If they emigrated in 1863 then Philomene was not likely born in CAN, though it is possible they went back for her birth. However, with the 1900 census requiring specific dates of birth, I tend to rely on it a bit more. One way or another, they were married about 1867-1868, either in MI or CAN and were very likely Catholic. I was unable to find them in the 1870 USA census. When you do, that may help clear up where the oldest child was born. One way or another, you will at some point need to work with the 1861 Quebec census and, unless you can pinpoint a location, that will be a lot of reels of microfilm to review! In the meantime, you may want to post a query to the Quebec-Research-L to see if anyone can locate the marriage and parents. Regards, Sharyn

I am trying to reserach the family of Leo Demers but have little information. I am looking for his half-brother Joseph Fred Horton who was born to Marie Louis Demer (do not have her maiden name but looks like it could well be Francoeur) as she was born in Canada. After the death of his mother Joe and his father Fred Horton left and have been told they were in the circus. Marie's children from her first marriage were Eunice, Noella, Lillian, Norman & Leo. It is my understanding that while Fred was married to Louis they have a show called D & H (Demers & Horton and performed ab the Old Man of the Mountain shows. Eunice is living at age 86 in Florida and it is my understanding that Norman Demers is still living too. Noella is deceased and she was married to Jim Tunstall, also deceased. Lilliain was married to Unknown Wiggins and lived in Tamworth, NH at the time fo her death. Are we talking about the same family? Joe would love to have more information. He does not even know when his father died or where? Do you know where Marie Louise Demer is buried in Westbrook Maine? Thank you for any help you can provide. Betty Cogan longlakegranny@aol.com
