    3. Hi Everyone, A couple of days ago I asked if anyone had reference material concerning the date of death for Redding Cannon DeLoach. Here is an excellent reply from Charlen Griffith Cathcart: From: JAMES A. CATHCART III <CHARLEN.1.2@worldnet.att.net> To: Javan Michael DeLoach <javan@paonline.com> Date: Tuesday, July 18, 2000 2:55 PM Subject: Redding Cannon DeLoach Dear Mike, Don't know if this will help you but I will show what material I have on the above and from wince it came. On page 324 of "Marriage and Death Notices from the Southern Christian Advocate" showing issue of November 25, 1853 it states: "Died in Barnwell dist., Sept. 23rd, Mrs. Esther Deloach, consort of R. C. Deloach, esq., in the 35th year of her age.... David Deloach, infant son of R. C. and Esther Deloach, died Sept. 23rd, aged 7 months.... Departed this life, Oct. 28th, R. C. Deloach, in the 47th year of his age..." Then from the South Carolina Lineage Chart #34 of Volume II I took the following: "Redding Cannon DeLoach b. 7-8-1807 Beaufort Dist., d. 10-28-1854 (Beaufort Dist.) m. 12-19-1827 St. Peter's Martha Ann Thomson b. 3-4-1810 (Beaufort County) d. 1-18-1837 had daughter, Catherine Ann b. 4-18-1833; d. ca. 1896 m. Edward Louis DerCom Then in "Some Historic Families of South Carolina" by Frampton Erroll Ellis on page 4 under DeLoach showing the 5th generation being Michael DeLoach and his wife, Dorcas, is a son named David (1752-1815) who had at least 3 children with Redding Cannon DeLoach listed as the 3rd child but no dates are given. "Redding Cannon DeLoach - who married 1st Martha Ann Thompson and 2nd Esther Patterson. One child by the 2nd wife was Freelove Patterson DeLoach who married Capt. William Lambert DePass of Camden and is mentioned as being a cousin of Col. Dan. H. Ellis in the war diary of Emily Caroline Ellis." I always feel that entries in a Bible are the correct names and dates but then if the hand writing has changed then the entry could be wrong by being put in the Bible at a later date. Also some handwritings can be hard to read and the date in the Bible could be correct but read wrong. From the SCMAR Volume X, #4, 1982 - page 192: "The Lancaster Ledger is issue @-16-1859, m. on 27th ult. by the Rev. W. Crook, at the residence of Mrs. F. Patterson, W. L. DePass, Esq. of Camden, S. C. to Miss F. P. DeLoache, of Barnwell District". From this I assumed that Freelove DeLoach went to live with her Grandmother, Freelove Elliott Patterson, in Barnwell, after the deaths of her parents. I would think that if her parents had been alive in 1859 the paper would have said who her parents were. Oh the sweet mysteries of doing genealogy! Please let me hear if you can get your hands on the original Bible or at least copies of the original pages from the Bible. Best regards, Charlen Griffith Cathcart (my husband is a descendant if Redding Cannon DeLoach through his daughter, Freelove DeLoach who married DePass. ======================================== I am away from home and do not have the copy of the Bible record to examine. However, I recall that it is about a 10th generation copy, and that some of the hand writing is very hard to read. In view of the information that Charlen provided and that quoted before from James Kilgo's book, I have changed the date of Redding Cannon DeLoach's death to 28 Oct 1853. I see in the news that it is mighty hot in some places in the South. I am in Restoule, Ontario, where the temperature was 48 degrees F this morning, and the high today is forecast to be 71. I hope some of this fresh air moves south to provide some relief. Take care. Mike
