    3. We don't always say how much we appreciate you, Mike, both in what you do for us on the DeLoach line and the many years of your work with Rootsweb. Keep us informed as to when new batches come on line, and thanks much. 3. Mike, My Haplogroup is R1b1c, has any returns on any of the DeLoach line come back. Family lore has my mtDNA line as Native American but it turns out to be M, and one of my matches is in Norway. Another crosses with my line in Appling County, Georgia, but as far as I know we don't connect. The thing with DNA is the more testing done, meaning people tested the more relevant it will become, so all who do genealogy with a passion should look into it and test, males both Y-DNA and mtDNA and females that don't have a brother testing for both should test their mtDNA. Enough said. Hi Bill, All of the results that have release forms will be posted on the DeLoach DNA Web page and be open to all interested parties. You are correct on the number of markers tested and the results obtained. Initially, I will be going for the 43 marker test in hopes of unraveling my unknown South Carolina ties. If further testing will narrow my gap with the Most Recent Common Ancestor, I will pursue that also. Mike

    3. Mike, You might contact: http://www.huxford.com/index.html The Huxford Genealogical Society, Inc. P.O. Box 595 Homerville, Georgia 31634 They are doing a regional DNA study and DeLoach is one of the surnames mentioned. I have submitted both my Y-DNA and mtDNA to them. Our Y-DNA surname group has not proven a lot so far, I match with a third cousin that we have established the relationship, but other lines in the area of western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee show a shift in one or two points. It establishes the group are kin, but we need more participants, so we can establish where the shifts took place, a group of seven is just not enough. Another thing, as with the Musick family, who were believed to be an English is coming up with a matching French line of a different surname. A match in the higher order may establish a connection between different surnames. Another thing, how many Alleles are to be tested, anything less than 37 will be wishful thinking. Way to many matches with other surnames with the 12, and the 25 eliminates some of them and the 37 almost all. The mtDNA is very stable, and expect many matches with the low order, but using the high order will bring you into the range of the Male surname search area. Another question, are the ones of us not carrying the DeLoach Y-DNA going to have the right to follow the testing. There are several that I follow, that are of interest to me and the Deloach falls into the same category. You can get a close male relative (brother, uncle, nephew, father) who has a DeLoach line of descendency to donate a sample for you. Females may participate in the project by ordering a participation kit from Sorenson, submit a sample for mitochondrial DNA testing, and sending 4 generation pedigree chart along with the DNA sample. That will place their ancestral information, which includes DeLoach lines, in the Sorenson Database. I have a cousin who is doing that very thing. We, like many families with roots in the Southern Appalachians, have family lore that we have Cherokee ancestry through one of the matrilineal lines. My cousins is in hopes that the Mt-DNA sample will reveal if their is Indian ancestry. Mike

I could also provide four pedigree charts except for my Crawford line, my mother's Owen grandfather's wife, Zillah Crawford, which would be the fourth generation and I have nothing on the Crawford line past her. 3. The Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation(SMGF) had a backlog of requests for participation kits, but were able to catch up following Christmas. All of our participants who have ordered a kit have received them. The kit consists of a small container of special mouthwash that you swizzle around in your mouth for at least 45 seconds, a bag to place it in, and a self-return box from SMGF. I returned my kit this morning along with a 4 generation pedigree chart and an ancestral GEDCOM on a 3.5" disk. After I got it in the mail I started wondering if they still had a 3.5" disk drive. We have six participants that have gotten their completed forms to me, and they can be viewed here: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~javan/desloges/dna/participants.htm There are three other DeLoach researchers that have expressed interest, but I have not received their completed forms. I made contact with a gentleman named Michael DesLoges [no kidding]. He lives north of Philadelphia, and comes from a DesLoges family in Massachusetts. So far, he has not shown any interest in participating in the Project. I will continue trying to get someone named DesLoges to sign up. I did find a gentleman named Lynn Loach who lives in Ontario who descends from the Loach families of England. Lynn is going to participate in an effort to see if the Loach families are connected to the DesLoges families. We need to get some participation from DeLoach researchers with roots in Georgia and South Carolina, and DeLoatch researchers from North Carolina. The DNA testing through SMGF is free. Providing a DNA sample along with your ancestral information will help build a great data base for future DeLoach researchers. For more information, please see: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~javan/desloges/dna/dna.htm Happy New Year everybody! Mike

    3. Mike I remember when if was a youngester my grand Mother Mary Catherine Garnet De Loach, had a big Bible that had all the De Loach information in iit. I remember that she told me that our family tree indicated that we all came from France in the 1600s. I don't remember seeing anything but the De Loach name. She also told me that we were from a royal family. Later in my life I tried to locate the Family Bible, but some how my Aunt's grandson got the Bible when she died and no one has seen it since. He was not fond of being related to the De Loach's. His name was Sharpe. Hope this information might help some. Take care. George P. De Loach

    1. [DELOACH] Dana Jo Fields DeLoach
    2. Javan Michael DeLoach
    3. Here is a touching obituary: Source: [email protected] Subject: Reeb-Roots A Final Farewell to my Cherokee Cousin Dana Jo Fields was born 28 October 1955, in Sallisaw, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma to Billy Jo Fields and Betty Sue Stewart. My first cousin Betty Sue Stewart was the daughter of Daniel Aulda Stewart and my aunt Ruby Odell Rape. Ruby Odell Rape was the daughter of my grandparents William Parks Rape and Minnie E. Ross. Today, I received word, that the funeral is in process in my native Sequoyah County for my favorite Cherokee cousin, that is first cousin once removed. Dana was so proud of her Cherokee heritage which she inherited from her Cherokee (Native American) father Billy Jo Fields. I have been told by may of my Cherokee friends in Oklahoma that Dana was loved, respected among the Cherokee in my home county. They were as proud to claim Dana Jo Fields DeLoach as she was of her Cherokee heritage. Dana is survived by my cousin, her mother Betty Sue Stewart and by a young son Charles Nathan DeLoach. I have missed Dana for the past few months. Soon after she was told that she was afflicted with MS, she called me to let me know that she was being put into the hospital and I knew then that probably she would not survive very much longer. Dana was like a niece to me and I am thankful for having her as a member of my family if only for a few short years. She was so proud of her Cherokee heritage and also her Reeb/Rape family. I want my family in Oklahoma to know that although I can not be there to pay my respects personally all of you are in my heart and mind. I know that my Cherokee aunt and uncle, my fathers older half siblings were as proud of Dana as her Rape cousins were. With a very sad heart, John V. Reeb

    3. In the message about this subject that was sent on 21 Nov 2006, I mentioned that there would be a Web page to support the DeLoach DNA Surname Project. The first edition is on-line: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~javan/desloges/dna/dna.htm We now have five participants in the study, but the project is too young to have any results to show. We are not sure how long it takes to get the kits from the testing agencies, nor how long it will take to do the tests. As soon as results start coming in, we'll let you know. Mike

    1. [DELOACH] DeLoach Surname Project
    2. Javan Michael DeLoach
    3. Michel DesLoges, aka Michaell Deloges, departed Bristol, England for the Virginia Colony in 1663. He had a four year apprenticeship as a tailor with Charles Taplady in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. At some point following his arrival, his name was Anglicized to Michael DeLoach. In about 1671, he married Jane Griffith, and thus began the DeLoach family in America. Based upon the genealogical research of Frampton Earl Ellis, John Bennett Boddie, Robert Ellis Colson, Joseph Earle Steadman and others, we have concluded that virtually all persons in the United States with the surnames DeLoach, DeLoache, DeLoatch, or any of the other variant spellings (hereafter simply referred to as DeLoach), are descendants of Michel DesLoges. We now have a way of verifying the common bond between the many branches of the DeLoach family with our forebear, Michael DesLoges. The recent advent of DNA genetic genealogy, specifically the Y chromosome test, can verify current genealogy and establish direct paternal links. The Y chromosome is passed practically unchanged from father to son, generation after generation. Thus, all males who have an unbroken direct line of descendency from Michel DesLoges would carry his Y chromosomes, and this can be determined through Y chromosome testing. I have initiated a DeLoach Surname Project. For the past couple of weeks, I have looked at all of the companies that do DNA testing and their products. It appears that all of them have the capability to adequately test and support a surname project. One of the major variances between the product of these companies is the cost of the test and the evaluation of DNA. It is my desire that the maximum number of DeLoach families be able to participate in this project, both for their own benefit, and for the establishment of a large DeLoach DNA data base that we and our descendants can use. The Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation (SMGF) <http://www.smgf.org/pages/overview.jspx> provides DNA testing free of charge for both men and women. Men can have a Y chromosome test and women can have a mitochondrial DNA test. Upon application, a Participation kit is provided <http://www.smgf.org/pages/participate.jspx>. You return your DNA sample along with a four generation genealogy record. Both of these will be entered into the Sorenson Database, which can be searched via the Web at <http://www.smgf.org/ychromosome/search.jspx>. The results of your DNA test are not returned to you, but they can be found by searching the database (try a search on the DeLoach surname and find four current participants). To express their appreciation for participating in the Sorenson Project, they provide a coupon that is good for a 26 Marker DNA test from Relative Genetics at a cost of only $95. This is far less than similar testing from other companies. Anyone wanting greater accuracy for their DNA test can opt for a Y-DNA-43 Marker Test at a higher cost. Full information concerning Relative Genetics can be found here: <http://www.relativegenetics.com/relativegenetics/index.jsp>. I urge everyone with DeLoach ancestry to participate in the free SMGF Project regardless of whether you have direct male lineage or not. The four (or more) generations genealogical record that you provide with your DNA sample will help build a tremendous database for future researchers. I encourage all families which have a direct DeLoach lineage to take advantage of the 26 marker test from Relative Genetics. If you can afford the 43 marker test, go for it! To join this project, go to the following site and do a search on DeLoach. Create a Login for the project, then follow the instructions for joining the project. After your membership is approved, you can sign on to the project and order the free kit. http://www.relativegenetics.com/genomics/search/surname.html?promo=00RLG I will put together a special Web page to support the DeLoach Surname Project. Included in this Web page will be a means to match our DNA samples with other databases, and procedures to exchange information with other Project participants. Your questions concerning this project are welcome. Mike
