Hi Wanda, Thanks for sending a copy of the Registration Card; it helped figure out who this was. He was indeed Andrew Burton DeLoach. He was the son of Charles Augustus DeLoach and his wife Josephine McCabe. Here is an extract of the 1900 Texas Census: DELOCH CHARLES A (White) June 1860 39 Ark Freestone Pct 2 JOSEPHINE wife July 1865 34 Tex BESSIE dau Dec 1883 16 Tex BELL dau Sept 1885 14 Tex ANDREW son Oct 1887 12 Tex ETHEL dau Sept 1892 7 Tex CORA dau Nov 1894 5 Tex RUTH dau Dec 1896 3 Tex WILLIAM son Mar 1899 1 Tex This family can be found in the DesLoges data base here: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=javan&id=I2320 The information on-line has not been updated with the information found on the Registration Card. Several years ago, Jay DeLoach found the reference to children being sent to the American Colonies from the Bridewell Royal Hospital, Palace, Prison and Schools. Included in the list of children was Rowland Griffin/Griffen. This reference is now on-line and can be found here: http://personal.linkline.com/xymox/families/childva.htm Mike

Hi Wanda, Alfred Burton DeLoach was a family name for several generations. The one you have info on may have been this one: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=javan&id=I477 Mike
Thanks Mike, I thought it could be Alfred Burton DeLoach but this Registration Card stated Andrew Burton DeLoach and the year is 1887. I will forward the card to you to see what you can make of it. Wanda
Hello Listers, Someone sent me a copy of a Registration Card for a ANDREW BURTON ( I think) DELOACH and I cannot find him in my DeLoach tree and I wonder if there is someone on the List that can tell me who he was , his parents and a little more about him. The writing on this card is hard to read, but the best I can make out, he was born in Oct. 27, 1887. He was a farmer and married, address looks like Munday, TX. and looks like his age was 79. Any Help? Wanda [email protected]
We now have nine participants who have registered in the DeLoach DNA Project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~javan/desloges/dna/participants.htm Yesterday, I received the test results from the sample that I submitted to Relative Genetics (it only took 2.5 weeks for the test to be completed). I submitted these results to the Y-Search and the Y-Base DNA data bases and did a comparative search against the other records that they have. AS I anticipated, there were no matches, as it appears as though I am the only person who has submitted a DeLoach Y-DNA sample that has been tested. We need more participants in the DNA Project. Remember, the first test through the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation is free of charge. Those wishing for a more thorough analysis through Relative Genetics receive a $60 discount for the 27 marker test. Mike
Dear Mike, Good luck on your genealogical searches as you head South next week. Particularly good luck as you search Beaufort District, S.C. As I advised in earlier emails I was born and raised in Hampton, S.C. where my father, Ben Tillman DeLoach (1894-1973) was Clerk of the Circuit Court of Hampton County for over 50 years from about 1919. His office was the keeper of the deeds, mortgages, court records, and birth records from 1915 (the first year the law required such registry). Hampton County was formed out of Beaufort District in 1878 and was the area where most of the DeLoach family settled after migrating from Edgefield County, S.C. My Dad searched records in Hampton County and also did research in Beaufort District. His notes indicate that most of the Pre-Civil War records were destroyed by fire during the War. He recorded a rather complete genealogical record of our line Back to David DeLoach (1774-1849): namely, Ben Tillman DeLoach (1894-1973) > Michael DeLoach (1864-1945)> Michael DeLoach (1926-1907) > David DeLoach (1774-1849). Our line then extends to a Michael DeLoach (1754-1808). From there our line goes to Michael DeLoach (1732-1800) and William DeLoach, Jr. (1707-1760). I have not personally searched for old records of the DeLoach line in Beaufort District prior to the Civil War. However, I had occasion a few years ago to do some research at the Beaufort Library on my maternal great-grandfather Samuel Prioleau Chisolm Sr. This library has an old archives section managed by a very gracious lady named Grace Cordial. At the time She was only in the library on certain days. Perhaps she would be a good source in your research. The library is close to downtown Beaufort and parking may be a premium. I did have her email address but cannot put my fingers on it right now. If I find, I will forward to you. I have been away from Hampton since my graduation from high school in 1940 but I return fairly frequently for visits with family. I have had good intentions of researching Beaufort County and the Archives in Columbia but my visits there are usually brief. I'll be very interested in learning the successes of your further research. Mike, I have registered for the new DNA Project but I have not yet received my kit in order to proceed. Are there pre-Civil War records, time-frame 1790-1810, available in the court houses in Edgefield and Beaufort Counties? Do the libraries or genealogical societies in those two counties have records for that period? When in Columbia, is there ample parking for a BIG truck close to the Archives? Recommendations from anyone who has done research at those three places would be greatly appreciated. Mike, I think it is great that you are headed this way. You know that Sherman burned the Beaufort Court House in Gillisonville. I am told that some of the records were transferred to Columbia before Sherman got there. Not sure if that is correct. You know of course that Jasper, Hampton and Allendale counties were formed from the old Beaufort District. Not much in Hampton. Not sure about Allendale, but there Courthouse burned several years ago and has been rebuilt. I have been to Edgefield and Batesburg and they should be worthwhile. They also have a Historical Society tin Edgefield. Then you know that Rev. Thomas DeLoach Jr.'s old church is near Batesburg. If you are interested, I may be able to set up a visit at the Old DeLoach settlement that is now on Groton Plantation in Allendale County, near Estill. Also Redden Cannon DeLoach's home place, Oakwood is there. My son is a friend of the manager there. Now is a good time. It is in between deer and turkey seasons. If you are interested, give me some possible times and I will try to set it up. I am not available on the 11th, 15th and 16th. Other than that I should be ok. Records for those time periods are very scarce in Beaufort Co. I was told at courthouse in Beaufort that there was nothing back past 1862 but when I requested they look, they found a lawsuit record for 1858. They will not let you look for yourself but will look for you and make a copy if material available. Info in library is very scarce in Beaufort Co, also. They have some family records, lots of marriage record books and some death records. Grace Cordial is librarian in research room and is very helpful. We visited the Archives in Columbia a couple of years ago and were allowed to park a 32' rv on back of parking lot overnight. We were researching Buckners in SC. My Deloaches are all from Tattnall Co., GA., now Evans co. Good luck. Betty Strickland Elkins ============================================================= Hi Everybody. Hi Mike, I have one known DeLoach connection. It is a female connection and it is back seven (7) generations. My question is ... Would it be worthwhile for your project if I did the test? Mike Durrence
No, Bill, but wish I did have a copy of that will. I'm not near my own computer as I am @ daughters in B'ham, Al. but I'm pretty sure that I DO NOT have it...I'd surely like to have one if anyone on the list is willing to share... JEAN
Me too, Mike. You're a godsend.
Jean, Do you by chance have a copy of Thomas Hart's will. It was abstracted here: Will 33, pg 51, Will book 1, 1759-1792, of the book "Northampton Co, NC 1759-1808, General Abstracts of Wills", by Margaret M. Hofmann. Will was dated 19 May 1761. Thomas Hart made his will 19 May 1761 and it was proved in the August Court 1761. He named Anne his wife, sons Hardy, Arthur, Thomas and William, daughters Sarah Boykin, Frances DeLoach, Mary Joyner and Martha Smith, and grandson Warren Hart. I would like a copy of it if anyone has a digital copy.
