Barbara, sorry I don't have too much information. But here is what I do have: My father, Leonard Ramond DeLoach (1891 - 1977) and my grandfather James Henry DeLoach (1866 - 1939) were born in Coosa County Alabama. My great grandfather (1818 - 1896) was born in South Carolina, but I don't know the county or town. Both my grandfather and great grandfather were listed in the 1880 censes for Coosa County Alabama. Good luck with your research. Hi Wanda, interesting about old George, for Chambers County Alabama is the adjoining county to my birth place, Lee County Alabama. However, I have no record of any relationship. 'Must be somewhere, I guess. Hope all is well with you. Barbara, good to hear from you. Unfortunately, I am again out of town and will return home on Sept. 14. I'll check out the information you requested when I return to Stockton, CA. If for some reason you don't hear from me in a couple of weeks, will you please send me another email? Things kind of get mixed up when I travel! The last mention of John I can find is 26 Aug 1816, when he relinquished his share of his mother's estate. Also, Samuel is mentioned several times in Wilson County between 1826 and 1833 when various people were named his guardian. My great-great-grandfather, Thomas Deloach, first appeared in Wilson County, Tennessee in the 1840 Census. He is in the same area (Spencers Creek and Cedar Lick Creek) where Jerusha and some of her children lived after Samuel's death. Believe Thomas may be related to this line. Congrats! Breaking through those brick walls can be tough, but you did it! :) Lisa In a message dated 7/20/2009 7:25:57 P.M. Pacific Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: I have finally found my grand uncle, Oscar Deloach. i have been looking for his final resting place for years.....one of those brickwalls has finally tumbled. Oscar "Doodle" Deloach was born in Elizabethton, Sullivan Co., TN. He died in Knoxville, TN on Oct 1, 1948. I am working on getting an obituary and possible news story as I have always been told he was killed by a hit and run driver. So there must be a news story i would think anyway. Oscar was the son of George Canada Deloach and Margaret Mays Deloach. My one suggestion to all is try anything possible to find your brickwalls. i have been poking around off and on for years looking for Oscar. I had him on the 1920 census with his wife, Love (Cora Love) and her 3 sons from a previous marriage. The boys surname was Garrett. I had found that 2 of those boys had passed away and have their obits but they really didn't tell me much. So i have been looking for the 3rd son, Charles Edward Garrett. I put his name! in on Switchboard.com and then use the public records search. there was more than one but the one that caught my eye was age 95. So i paid the 1.95 +.50 to have his address emailed to me. I got the address and decided to write. Seemed like a real long shot, after all, if he was still living at that age he might not even know his own name. Well a week and a half later i got my return envelope back and in it was a note from the daughter of Charles Edward Garrett. She said he father had passed away but she knew and remembered Oscar......she knew him as "Doodle"...and that he was buried in the Lynnhurst Cemetery in Knoxville. She thought he died about 1946 or 1947 when she was about 14. She gave me the phone number of the cemetery so today I called them and they did confirm they had an O.D. Deloach who had died Oct 1, 1948. I sure hope my connection at the E.W. King Library in Bristol can find an obit for me and hopefully a story about the accident that killed Oscar ! if that is in fact what happened. Now I can focus my time on Oscar's father, my Great Grandfather, George Canada Deloach. He lived at least to 1923 and we are told is buried in a Deloach cemetery in Elizabethton, TN. so far nothing but dead ends but i am not going to give up!! What a delight for you to find that information! I search and dig for information on my other lines, thankfully most of my DeLoach's settled right here in Georgia and I have the DeLoach book. I did however, have to prove a United States Census wrong to get into the Daughters of the American Revolution. Prayers, another census, a cemetery book and something called a school fund book made the difference. I found the cemetery book, school fund, and the census all on the same day at the Georgia Room in Marietta, Georgia! The genealogist in Washington DC I was working with said an lot of people have the same name what makes you so sure what you have sent in is correct? I said because my Mother knows where their land was and knows the family history. She was right! ----- Original Message ---- From: marilyn deloach elliott <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Monday, July 20, 2009 10:25:23 PM Subject: [DELOACH] Oscar Deloach I have finally found my grand uncle, Oscar Deloach. i have been looking for his final resting place for years.....one of those brickwalls has finally tumbled.
