Greetings, Kim Slaughter, the Kent County Coordinator for the Delaware USGenWeb, has found it necessary to step down from that position. The Delaware USGenWeb Project gratefully acknowledges Kim's dedicated service to the Kent County site and its visitors, and wishes her well in her future endeavors. A new CC (County Coordinator) is needed to take over the Kent County site. Interest in, and enthusiasm for, Kent County Delaware genealogy is necessary, as is the ability to create and upload web pages. If you are interested in this fun, rewarding position, or if you have further questions about what is involved, please read over the Delaware CC Guidelines page located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~degenweb/ccguide.htm . Thanks, Shari Handley shari@tyaskin.com Delaware USGenWeb State Coordinator

The only thing I have for him is his parents' names from his death certificate - - John Jones and Mary Davis. Two good ole' Welsh names, I'd say!!! I sent for the 1880 Delaware soundex for Jones. Hopefully I can find out where his parents came from. Thanks for responding. Phyllis Wilkinson

Searching for a marriage record for John WITHERSPOON and Martha PETTIGREW. Possibility that the marriage occurred in New Castle Co. DE, in the 1750-57 period. Would appreciate being contacted by anyone who might do a look-up. John's *probable* mother, Flora WITHERSPOON, died in New Castle in 1781. They were all Presbyterians so there may be a church record, which I don't have access to. Thanks. Charlie Weaver, Winston-Salem, NC

His death certificate shows that he was buried in Forest Cemetary, Middletown, DE., on December 23, 1940. According to the best recall of his daughter, who died last year, his widow, Delilah Mae (Snyder) Jones, died about about 1976, but she (in her mid nineties) couldn't recall where. I was wondering if she was possibly buried with her husband. She was his second wife, so maybe his first wife was buried with him, too. (Maybe he was buried between both wives - who knows!) Charles Everett Jones was listed as a handy man for the Fire Department in Middletown, and he died upstairs from the Fire House, according to one of his Grandsons. I'm going to the FHC in Homestead, FL. this morning to see what records are available for Wilmington, Del., to start checking on his parents. Incidentally, this is my son-in-laws family. My Grandsons have several Confederate ancestors on their mother's side of the family, that I'd love to find some Union Soldiers to balance it off on their father's side. Thanks so much for your help. Phyllis Wilkinson Key Largo, FL. P.S. Your msg. was a keeper -- thanks again for taking the time!
The cemetery north of Middletown is Forest Cemetery. Forest Cemetery is located at the corner of Cedar Lane and North Broad Street (DE Route 71) just north of the Middletown Square Shopping Center in Middletown. To go to Forest Church from the cemetery, take North Broad Street/Route 71 south to the light, turn right on Main Street, the church will be on the left just past the Everett Theatre. Can't miss it - Middletown is small. What family are you looking for in Forest Cemetery? Just an interesting note on the Everett Theatre: This is the theatre you see in the film, "Dead Poets Society" starring Robin Williams. The school in the film is actually St. Andrews, located just south of Middletown. Additional footage was filmed in historic New Castle, DE.
Dear Listers, Has anyone put "The Delaware Gazette" newspaper on CD? Many of my Garesché, Bauduy and Deschapelles ancestors were mentioned at various times in that paper, so it would be a wonderful genealogy tool for me. Thanks in advance for any information, Betty Garesché Torno St. Louis, MO
