Betty, Louis McLane was from Smyrna (Kent County), Delaware. Although he served Delaware well, I believe that by 1849, Mr. McLane was living in Baltimore.I have a copy of the Pomeroy and Beers Atlas of the State of Delaware, published in 1868. That atlas does not show a Rose Hill near Eden Park in New Castle County, Delaware. It does show a Rose Hill estate west of Smyrna. The 1868 owner is T. Foxwell, I think. I believe that Dr. Monroe wrote a biography of Louis McLane. That might provide further clues. Rose Hill does not appear to be a rare name. Bob S.
Thank you, Bob!
Well, I've also heard there was a Rose Hill School District, but where was Rose Hill in 1849? Is there a map that dates from then that would show it? Thanks, Betty
It's a housing development off of New Castle Ave traveling south out of Wilmington, DE. You pass Rogers Road which intersects the Ave on the right. I would estimate that the development has 25-40 homes Walter, life long native of Wilmington
There is a Rose Hill Community Center at 19 Lambsen Lane, New Castle, Delaware. This is near Eden Park.
Hi, You might be interested in the "Families of the Pioneer Valley" CD which contains: "Springfield Families" by Thomas B. Warren. "Pynchon's Court Records 1638-1696". "Pynchon's Births, Marriages and Deaths 1638-1696". all of which were compiled from the record books he and his son kept for a number of years. I spoke to one of the people from Regional http://www.RegionalPublications.com and he informed me that the next CD's to be released will be Cemetery records for a lot of Mass & Conn towns. Also the "Dewey" series which is very similar to "Springfield Families" but from the Westfield Mass and surrounding towns. About 2000 pages of data and he said its only available in the Westfield Library. That one should be real good for us as lots of our people were from that area. Check out their site and let me know what you think.
There is a nursery(plants) called Rose Hill Nursery on Rt. 13 near New Castle. This may be the area. It is outside Wilmington as you are going towards Old New Castle. Sorry I don't have the exact location, I hope this will get you started. Sharon
Hello list, Does anyone know of a place called Rose Hill which might have been near Eden Park near Wilmington in 1849? Presumably, it would have been the property of Louis McLane, one time Senator from DE, Minister to Great Britain, etc. I would very much like to have any information about it because a family marriage supposedly took place there. Thanks, Betty Torno St. Louis, MO
Hello, I am looking for any information on Orsetti's in DE. I don't have an exact DE location, but possibly migrated to MI. Thanks for reading, Lori Orsette

Have found the birth of Nathan Jester b 7-20-1784 son of Ebenezar & Sarah Jester, but no Elizabeth. Don't forget that in those times a mother often used her mothers maiden name as the middle name for her child. Some even used the sur name of there pastor or a beloved neighbor. This info should be at the Archives in Dover. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: Sharon Terca <sharonterca@hotmail.com> To: <DELAWARE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 12, 2001 9:44 AM Subject: Unidentified subject! > I am trying to find out about Elizabeth Phillips Hurd who married Nathan > Jester.
