    3. You may want to try the mailing list for Delaware Census Lookups. You would join at the same site you went to to join this one. It would not cost anything to you either. 3. Hi List I have just joined you and am hoping there is someone out there who can help with my first venture in the U.S.A. Is it possible to check if Andrew Park and Mary Jane Morrison married on 29 October 1877, somewhere in Delaware? Also, is it possible to check if their son, William Morrison Park was born, also somewhere in Delaware, in 1877? Does anyone know any source - e.g. the 1880 census, directories, etc., where these names may be checked? I look forward to some help, please! Beryl

    1. Re: [DELAWARE] PARK/MORRISON
    2. Hello, I do not know a great deal about searching in Delaware, but I have done a little research there, and I can pass on to you some of the sources I found. 1. I ordered a CD online of part of the 1880 census in Delaware; I think there are 3 volumes - I ordered T9-119 CD from Family Quest Archives by Heritage Quest. I don't have a web address, but I think it might be the Heritage Quest site. Don't know if they have an index for the census or not. 2. I had relatives in the city of Wilmington, Delaware in the late 19th century, so I was able to check the annual city directories from 1850-present at the Historical Society of Delaware, 505 North Market St., Wilmington, DE, though you may need to go there in person (they're not on the web, I don't think). You could write to them and see. 3. I checked (Catholic) church records in Wilmington, at the Family History Center in Wilmington (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 143 Dickinson Lane, Westhaven, Wilmington, DE 19806). On their literature, it says that telephone inquiries should be made to: Douglas McMinn (302) 475-2970; and all mail should be sent to: Wilmington Family History Center, Doug McMinn, Director; 2627 Kimbrough Dr., Wilmington, DE 19810. I don't know if you can order from them long-distance, but you can look on their website (don't know the address - search for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mormons, or Family History Center, Family History Library), get the order number of items on the website that you wish to see, and see how it all works from Europe. (They have many centers in the U.S. and other places.) 4. There are the Delaware State Archives in Dover, Delaware - but I don't know much about that - hopefully someone else will answer your e-mail with their address, etc. I hope this has been of some help. Good luck. Nancy

    1. [DELAWARE] Any Giffords in Delaware?
    2. Jean Boutcher
    3. I am new to the List. Any Giffords migrated to Maryland between 1803 and 1819? I am seeking the parents of MARY ANNA GIFFORD who was born on Dec. 11, 1803, in Delaware. She married Dec. 3, 1819, in Frederick, Md. to Henry Stowell, born August 13, 1797, in Hingham, Mass. After the premature death of Henry, Mary lived with three little daughters in Baltimore, Md. from 1826 to 1831. In Baltimore on Jan. 1, 1831, she married secondly to John A. Richardson, born 1803 Pennsylvania. Much thanks for your help. Jean

    3. The birth certificate will take a little work to find. Try the Delaware Public Archives. For more information go to: http://www.state.de.us/sos/dpa/collections/vital.htm The 1990 Delaware census records may also be helpful if the city directories don't provide all you need.

    2. Hello, I know there are city directories for the city of Wilmington, starting around 1850 and I believe go up to the present, at the Historical Society of Delaware in Wilmington, on Market St. downtown. I don't know if Christiana area was part of Wilmington or not, though. Historical Society of Delaware, 505 North Market St., Wilmington, DE 302-234-0460 Hope this helps.

    1. [DELAWARE] New subscriber needs help!
    2. Hi everyone! I need some help with the year 1883 in the state of Delaware. My great grandparents John and Fannie McCann emigrated to the United States sometime after April of 1882. I believe they probably arrived in Philadelphia. In July of 1883, their son James was born in Delaware. Fannie's brother James Finegan emigrated in 1881 and set up house in the Christiana Park area (before it was Christiana Park). They lived in the rear of a small house. John and Fannie probably lived nearby. What I would like to know is if there was a city directory that might tell me an address for them. Also, how easy is it to get a birth certificate from 1883 and would it tell me much for genealogy purposes? Thanks for the time to listen! Sandy
