    1. [DELAWARE] Samuel Edward Cole
    2. Peter B McCue
    3. Seeking info on my mother, Clara Gusberg & Samuel Edward Cole who were married in Aug. 1917 in Hartford,CT. By 1919 my mom had a son in Hartford and the birth certificate says: 2nd child. As children we were always told my mom had a child named COLE. Inasmuch as Clara & Sam were living in Newark,DE., in 1918 I assumed the child was born there or someplace in DE. either before they married or after. Both Coles worked in paper mills and may have gone to CT. for work but the 1918 draft registration of Sam Cole says that he was unemployed and under medical care living at 48 No, Chaple St., Newark, with my mom. I am in declining health and advancing age and can't travel;too much to perform my own research so I would dearly love to sole this mystery before it's too late; anything at all you can do would be greatly appreciated any costs involved paid for. I am told there is a De. birth index up to 1923. I can't find Sam in the 1920 DE. census but I did find my mom in the CT. 1920. Best wishes and be well. peter19252000@juno.com

    1. Re: [DELAWARE] To the list
    2. Hi Joann I wish I could help you but maybe a suggestion would help. I found the following site very helpful, Go to vital records and they allow you to send an E-mail with your request. If they find something I think it was five dollars and they will send it through the mail. Make sure you check the proper dates as the archives has one period and vital records has another. Hoping this helps some Dee/Southampton, Ma

    1. [DELAWARE] POORHOUSE Information
    2. Poor House Lady
    3. We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com Please excuse the cross posting ... but we are so excited! We just posted information about what the Delaware Public Archives have put online in their Digital Archives! The Kent County Pauper Books! A register of the infirm and poor inmates of the county almshouse. Deaths and births are also included. These are actual images (and readable!) of the pages of these books for the following years: 1815, 1826, 1842, 1852. Take a look!!! DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on DELAWARE on the table of states. You will find the new information at the top of the page with a big yellow NEW arrow. (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

    1. [DELAWARE] BURGIN census lookups
    2. Burgin
    3. List, I'm researching the BURGIN (alternate spellings Burgan, Burgen, etc.) family in Appoquinimink Hundred, New Castle Co., in the 1700s and early 1800s. I'd love to correspond with any descendants of that family. They're hard to find. Another thing that's hard to find--at least where I am--is Delaware records. Even census records! I have the 1800 and 1850, but local libraries, even a large genealogical library in Knoxville, don't have the ones in between, even in index form. And amazingly, the Mormons haven't microfilmed them. Is there anyone who has access to any or all of those censuses, 1810-1840, even just in published index form, who could please check them for Burgins in Appoquinimink for me? I'd be EXTREMELY grateful! Thanks so much-- Ramond Burgin Big Stone Gap, VA

    3. The Corinthian Lodge is a part of the Masons. I went to the Google search engine, and entered just Corinthian Lodge, and got a lot of hits, all Masonic Chapters. I tried Corinthian Lodge #1, and Corinthian Lodge, Wilmington DE also. There were pages of hits -- I didn't wade through them all, but found only Washington Lodge #1 for Delaware, and could not access the site. Suggest you contact the Masons and see if they can help. 1. [DELAWARE] Delasplane Manor
    2. Bill Harris
    3. Delpalne Manor is a small subdivision located off of the Kirkwood Highway, just outside of Newark. I can't tell you much more about it. It's common in Delaware for subdivisions to be named after the farmland they were built on, so you could assume Delpane Manor once was the site of a farm owned by a Delaplane. Of course, the "Dela" could aslo stand for "Delaware" and the name was a fabrication by the developer... > Date: Thu, 01 Nov 2001 12:48:16 -0800 > From: "G. Church in Milton, DE which is in Broadkill Hundred: James Tull, 63 yrs old, d. 3-19-1864 Martha Hall Tull, wife of James, 72years 27 days, b.11-8-1792 d. 12-5-1864 He's not your James, but I thought I'd throw it in. Delaplane Manor is a small town, borough, or subdivision (I have been unable to determine which) in Delaware near Newark. It is located almost exactly halfway between Newark and Stanton, about 3 mi east of and about 1 mi north of Newark. I am the editor of a 600-page book titled "The Delaplaines of America" by Marvin G. Delaplane (of Dayton, OH). I would like to include something on the significance (or lack thereof) of Delaplane Manor to the Delaplanes who once lived in Delaware. 1. [DELAWARE] Infro for James Tull
    2. Delores Tull
    3. I am searching for information a James Tull born abt 1790-92 Sussex Co., DE,I'm wanting information while he was a child, who are his parents and siblings. The information I first found on him was at the age of 20 years old when he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted on July 29, 1811 in Symrna, shows his birthplace was DE, his previous occupation was a farmer, he was discharged on July 16, 1816 he was a Sergeant of the United States Navy on board the Sloop of War USS Lawrence. I have documents on his discharge and enlistments, but didn't show the names of his parents, James lived in Georgetown, DE then to Erie, Pennsylvania during and after he was wounded, then I found him 1821 in Caldwell Co., KY, I have alot of information on him and his wife and children while in Caldwell Co., KY, I'm searching for information on James from the time he was born to the age of 20. I have found other James Tull born in Sussex Co., De but can't seem to tie any of them to him. I have looked for information in Orphen Records, Wills, Deeds, maybe I'm just not getting the right ones, or maybe I've overlooked them. Any Suggestions, I'm just about to give-up. Thanks!
