    1. [DEKENT] Kent Co. & Caroline Co. -- BERRY-WEBBER-VOSS-WYATT-MEDFORD
    2. Hi lists, Does anyone have a connect to the following BERRY-WEBBER- VOSS-WYATT-MEDFORD Families? This is my BERRY Line: My Arthur John b. 31 May 1851 in Caroline Co., MD, is NOT the child of Wm & Martha (Vaulx/Voss) WEBBER but was raised by them. Wm WEBBER is named as Arthur's father on his death certificate but I do not believe this to be correct -- mother is unknown. Arthur John is the son of Margaret BERRY who m. a Wm MEDFORD on 14 Oct 1848 in Caroline Co., MD & was accused of adultery in 1851. Hence, Arthur John WEBBER is Margaret's illegitimate son! (See WEBBERs in the 1860 -1870 census below.) Ref: "HEIRS and LEGATEES of CAROLINE COUNTY" page 57, by Irma HARPER. Martha (Vaulx/Voss) WEBBER had a brother Holiday VAULX/VOSS, who m. a Nancy E. BERRY, on 21 Oct 1850 in Caroline Co., MD & she is the sister or cousin of Margaret (Berry) MEDFORD. This relationship is the reason why Margaret's children Arthur John & daughter Mary MEDFORD (fathered by Wm MEDFORD) came to be living with & raised by the WEBBERs!!! Margaret may have died about 1858 or she just left the children with the WEBBERs, in that year. A John STAFFORD maybe Arthur John's real father. (See info of the court cases below.) William MEDFORD vs. Margaret MEDFORD: [Wm MEDFORD who m. Margaret E. BERRY, accuses her of adultery] 1851 1st Monday in July 1852--Margaret MEDFORD to appear in court on this date in Denton, Caroline Co., MD complaint by Wm MEDFORD. Issued the 26th of May 1852. Witnesses: Holiday VOSS John W. VOSS Zebulor LAYTON John STAFFORD Note: Henrietta Wood told me there were papers missing from this court case. 2nd Monday in March 1858--Margaret MEDFORD to appear in court on this date in Denton, Caroline Co., MD complaint by Wm MEDFORD. Issued the 24th of November 1857. 1860 Census--Denton Post Office, Caroline Co., MD WEBBER William 47 M W MD Farmer R/P $2500 P/P $380 Martha 39 F W MD James 18 M W MD William 13 M W MD Ann 10 F W MD Charles 8 M W MD John 6 M W MD Mary 4 F W MD Holiday 2 M W MD Richard 10/12 M W MD *MEDFORD Mary 14 F W MD Arthur 9 M W MD (my line)* *Mary is the daughter of Wm W. & Margaret (Berry) MEDFORD, Jr. 1870 Census--3rd Dist., Denton Post Office, Caroline Co., MD WEBBER William 54 M W MD Farmer R/P $1800 P/P $800 Martha 48 F W MD Holiday 13 M W MD Richard 11 M W MD Martha J 9 F W MD George L 2 M W MD * Arthur J 19 M W MD *Why is Arthur John the last child on both the 1860 & 1870 Census? Is he a child of someone else??? Yes, Margaret BERRY! I believe a William BERRY is the father of Margaret & Nancy E. BERRY because of the following connections: LAND 29 Dec 1840 -- 9 Jan 1841 William WEBBER to Daniel WYATT & John THAWLEY, his securities for a note given to William W. MEDFORD for abt $40 - livestock & furniture. Wit: Thomas MELVIN. Ack. bef. Elijah R. MANSHIP. Ref: "Caroline County Maryland Land Records," Book #17, 1840-1843. 12 Jan 1841 - 22 Jun 1841 Daniel WYATT & Mary his wife of KCD to William BERRY of CACO - cons. $20 - pt. of "Friendship," adj. "Punch Hall" - cont. abt 3 acres. Daniel & Mary his wife e/a bef. Thomas MELVIN, Elijah R. MANSHIP. Ref. "Caroline County Maryland Land Records," Book # 17, 1840-1843 NOTE: "Punch Hall," today is, "Burrsville" & sits on the Caroline Co., MD & Kent Co., DE State line but is considered to be in MD. KCD = Kent Co., DE CACO = Caroline Co., MD I hope this all wasn't to confusing to you! :) The BERRYs in Kent Co. DE & Caroline Co., MD do have a connection. Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)
