Pie ChartsI have received marriage records from DE re ancestors and need some help in understanding them. In 1807, couple paid 500 pounds to the state, condition of obligation evidently that they are free to marry, consent of parents if under age etc and that marriage be void if conditions not met. Another in 1830.. they paid $200 with similar stipulations. Were these monies paid the day of the marriage? Were they refundable? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
