The book, "Vital Records of Kent and Sussex Counties Delaware 1686-1800" contains no Knotts entry. All records are not necessarily birth, marriage & death, so this doesn't really eliminate all these churches for you. Note the 1800 cut-off date. The chapters are: 1. Extracts from Duck Creek Monthly [i.e., Quaker] Minutes 1705-1800 2. Duck Creek Monthly Meeting - Births, Deaths and Marriages, 1686-1800 3. Vital Records from Murderkill and Duck Creek Monthly Meetings 4. St. George's Protestant Episcopal, Indian River 5. Lewes and Coolspring Presbyterian Church 6. Subscribers of Blackwater Presbyterian church, near Frankford 7. Pew Holders of St. Peter's Protestant Episcopal Church, Lewes, 1789 8. Prince George's Church, Sussex County (Dagsboro) 9. Gleanings by Rev. C. H. B. Turner (includes fragments from St. John the Baptist, near Milton) Beyond that, the BARRATT and BARRAT names occur several times, but there are no William nor Margaret BARRATTs, and the families listed seem to be Quaker. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob KNOTTS" <raknotts@qwest.net> To: <DEKENT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2002 12:20 PM Subject: [DEKENT] Churches in QA,Caroline, and Kent cos MD, and Kent co DE, 1700-1850 > Can anyone tell me what churches existed in Queen Annes, Caroline, and Kent cos MD, and Kent co DE between abt 1740 and 1850? I'm looking for information on my gg-grandfather Andrew Levi KNOTTS' parents and family, and the marriage of my g-grandfather, William KNOTTS, b 1805, QA co to Margaret M BARRATT. I would think that WM and Margaret would have been married in BARRATT's Chapel, as Margaret's grandfather, Col. William BARRATT, donated the land for the church. Andrew was b ca 1770, QA co. I'd like to know who was the minister/priest of these churches when they ceased to function, and what was done with their records. Thank you. Bob KNOTTS, PHX, AZ
Hi, Dick. It doesn't seem to be complete. There was an Absalom KNOTTS, b 1746 in Kent DE., who is pretty famous to DE/MD KNOTTS'. He went to WV in 1780 and started the WV KNOTTS'. I think half the KNOTTS in the U.S. are descended from him (well, a whole bunch, anyway). His father was Robert KNOTTS, b ca 1725, QA co, where my family was. Thanks for checking.
