    1. [DEKENT] PATTY CANNON featured on PBS History Detectives

    3. A few nights ago on our local PBS station (Indianapolis) we came across a program called History Detectives. In this episode they were discussing Patty Cannon. Below is the description of the episode: "Portrait of George Washington, Patty Cannon, Trumpet" (#104) Portrait of George Washington - Frederick, Maryland - Could a portrait passed down through a Frederick, Maryland family actually be an authentic portrait of the nation's first president, George Washington? That is the charge for the History Detectives in this fascinating episode. The investigators attempt to prove whether or not the famed artist Gilbert Stuart, whose resume includes the portrait of Washington that appears on today's dollar bills, was the artist behind the drawing in question. Might this drawing prove to be a national treasure? Patty Cannon - Federalsburg, Maryland - Could a Maryland family's home once have been the headquarters for the kidnapper and slave trader Patty Cannon, coined "the most wicked woman in America?" Legend has it that she was a villainous woman who stole slaves and kidnapped free African-Americans to sell them back to plantation owners. Now the History Detectives team investigates to see if they can prove once and for all that this is in fact the former home of Patty Cannon. Will they be able to draw long-sought-after conclusions or will the mystery remain? Trumpet - Bucks County, Pennsylvania - Is a Philadelphia man's trumpet which he bought at a local auction, somehow tied to the Revolutionary War? That is the mystery the History Detectives solve this time around. Inscribed with the name "Captain Lewis," the trumpet appears to have been used by the aforementioned captain during the battles that won America's independence from England. Will the trumpet prove to be a valuable piece of American history? I checked the Maryland PBS station near the Caroline Co. area (call letters MPT, http://www.mpt.org/ ), and it aired this program on the 17th but is replaying it Monday, August 18, at 8:00 p.m. If you don't live in this area check your local PBS station's website for dates and times this show will air. We only caught the last few minutes of it, but I plan on taping the entire program when they re-air it at 3 a.m this morning. Adina Dyer
