I've been lurking here for several months and while I haven't seen anything to help my search (HOLLIDAY and MORRIS families in the Duck Creek Crossroads area (now Smyrna)), I thought I would start by offering help to others. I am willing to do lookups in my copies of "Kent County, Delaware Land Records". I have volumes 1-10 (missing vol. 4), which cover records from 1680 thru 1775. Each volume has a full name index, so checking will be fairly easy. I realize I'll probably be swamped with requests, but if you'll be patient, I promise I'll respond to all. aschorfheide@comcast.net Jean Schorfheide Galloway, NJ

Tax records for Kent co. for this period and more are available from an LDS Church Family History Center in your community. I don't know of any significant published sources for tax records and they take a while to research but are very worthwhile. You'll probably have to order them and do the work yourself. Cost is $4.00 per roll of microfilm. Specific rolls can be determined at the FHC or on the web. Someone else can speak to deed records. These books are available at the public libraries, and have some good information for Kent. Co. I only copied the surnames I am researching, which is Taylor. 1. Genealogical Abstracts from BIOGRAPHOCAL and GENEALOGICAL HISTORY of the STATE of DELEWARE by Bill and Martha Reamy 2. DELAWARE BIBLE RECORDS [I copied from vols. 5 by Donald O. Virdin and Lu Verne V. Hall-- vol. 6 by Lu Verne V. Hall] 3. Souls in Heaven, Names in Stone, KENT COUNTY, DELAWARE--Cemetery Records Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 by Raymond Walter Dill, William Martin Dill, Elizabeth Ann Bostick Dill. 4. REVOLUTIONARY PATRIOTS OF DELAWARE 1775-1783 by Henry C. Peden, Jr., M.A. The cemetery records are partial pages for Barrit's Chapel Cemetery, Bethel Cemetery, Asbury Church Victory Chapel Cemetery, United Methodist church Cemetery. I hope this helps for the researchers in looking in Delaware. Mary

Dawn: Your inquiry jumped out at me. Let me explain why. My gr. grandpa John Morris, born in Murderkill Hundred, Delaware c. 1818-20, came to Ohio (Greene County, Bellbrook area) with his older siblings: William (with wife), Thomas, and their sister, Unity. Those four siblings I know for sure. They arrived about 1826 after having lost both of their parents to death according to the story. The story goes that they came west over the mountains in an ox drawn cart with "a group of Welsh farmers." They first stopped in Delaware OH, then the Morris' went on to Greene County. Now, Dawn, Unity Morris, married a SOWARD. I saw their graves are in the Bellbrook Cemetery, Greene County. Soward is a familiar name around Dayton, Ohio, whence I come. If memory serves me well, Unity Morris Soward was born ca. 1810-1813. I wonder if these Sowards belong to you. If I can think of Unity Morris Soward's husband's name, I'll email you. Hope this helps.
