    1. RE: [DEKENT] Kent County, DE Land Records
    2. Jean Schorfheide
    3. Hello, Dick, The Kent County land record books they carry only go up to 1775. Since the last one was published in 1999, it's hard to say if there will be any additional volumes. You can look at what Willow Bend has available at: http://www.willowbend.net/ In my opinion, they have an impressive list of Delaware books. But then, having done years of research from Illinois, having ANY Delaware books impresses me!! <grin> Jean Schorfheide Galloway, NJ aschorfheide@comcast.net -----Original Message----- From: Dick [mailto:dick.harris@mindspring.com] Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2003 8:35 AM To: DEKENT-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [DEKENT] Kent County, DE Land Records Are there any such books for records as recent as 1825? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ellen Ward" <ellen@bcpl.net> To: <DEKENT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 11, 2003 11:20 PM Subject: Re: [DEKENT] Kent County, DE Land Records > Jean, > > Are you still willing to do look-ups in your Kent County land books? 3. Jean, Are you still willing to do look-ups in your Kent County land books? If so, would you mind checking to see if you have anything on the Ward family who lived in Duck Creek as early as the late 1600s and probably at least through 1800. I found references to them in some wills and believe that a John Ward had children Susanna, George, John and Thomas. I'm not sure if the family moved or if the county lines changed but early family was shown in Duck Creek, Kent County and then later references say Appoquinimink Hd, New Castle County. I believe they may be related to the Wards of Cecil County and am just beginning to work on that. I am also descended from the Judge Isaac Davis family of Milford. Their ancestors moved from Worcester Co., MD to Sussex County DE and finally to Kent County, DE. Thanks for suggesting the books for land records. I will probably buy (at least) one from Willow Bend - they're a wonderful resource and close by for me! If one book looks like a good choice for me please advise me! If you need me to check anything for you in my Cecil County books, just ask! 2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, It is that time of year when some of you will be leaving on Vacations. You might want to consider unsubscribing from the list while you are gone and then resubscribing when you return. The easiest way to do this is by using Password Central. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will receive a e-mail list of all Rootsweb Mailing Lists you belong to. You can unsubscribe using this e-mail. Save it and you then have a list of mailing lists you want to re-subscribe to. When you return, you can check the Archives for this list at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ Just type in the name of the list and you can check the messages for the dates you were gone. The following was shared with me and I think it is one of the best Maps I have seen showing the growth and history of the United States. http://www.animatedatlas.com/movie.html I appreciate each of you and know that it is because of you our list is the success it is. 3. Hi Jean, So I know if I'm reading this right - is this excerpt from your email about a Joseph Brown Turner family? Turner, Joseph Brown. Genealogical Collection. LOCATION: Morris Library - Microforms (Microfiche no. 391) Genealogical notes concerning several thousand families, with emphasis on those living on the Delmarva Peninsula. The records range in content from the medieval period to 1935, but are principally of the 17th through 19th centuries. ----- Original Message ----- From: Jean Schorfheide To: DEKENT-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, June 05, 2003 8:06 PM Subject: [DEKENT] Delaware Family Histories Hello, everyone! Since I'm unemployed right now, I'm trying to put in some quality time getting my filing caught up (still have boxes to unpack from moving several years ago). I found a list of Delaware family histories in the University of Delaware Library that I printed out 4 years ago. I went back to the web page and got the latest version. I know many of you can't get to the University Library, but you may be able to get them thru Interlibrary Loan and some of the older books may have been microfilmed and be available thru the LDS. I hope this is of help to some of you. 1. [DEKENT] Delaware Family Histories
    2. Jean Schorfheide
    3. Hello, everyone! Or, if you are living in an area where you have no one, think of visiting a cemetery and placing flowers by one of these lonely graves. I live in Logan Utah and tomorrow I will be visiting several local cemeteries and will be placing flowers on graves. Over the past years I have adopted these graves, these people and I hope that someone out there is doing the same for my loved ones. This is the day to remember those who came before us, who forged the paths that we now walk. 3. Hello all. A fellow researcher sent me the quote below and I am hoping that someone could answer the following questions for me: - is this the Dunning Methodist Church Cemetery? - where is it located (address) and is it still there? - does anyone have the phone number so I can ask if there is a stone there? - anything of significance relating to this cemetery. "John R has a headstone in the old Dulaney's Church cemetery just north of the Kent/New Castle county line. It is less than one mile east of the Maryland/Delaware line. I have not been able to verify if he is buried there or if it is just a memorial. His first wife is buried there with her parents and siblings." Thanks in advance, John Ellingsworth

    3. Elaine and all, You need to understand that "access" to the Kent co., DE, tax lists is not something that is a matter of looking into a book. The lists are available for the period you mention but they are year by year and involve looking through them for the surname(s) of interest. To do a 40 year period for one name (such as Philip Alexander) could take several hours of time. They are very valuable and definitely should be consulted but they can't be done quickly as implied by the request. They are available from the LDS church by order through a local family history center and probably in other places, too. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elaine" <braisl@madisontelco.com> To: <DEKENT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 11:10 PM Subject: [DEKENT] Philip ALEXANDER > Hello, I was wondering if anyone on the list has access to the Kent County DE Tax/Census Records for c. 1760-1800.
