Elias Abodeely II operated the Web sites FamilyDiscovery.com and Genseekers.com from his home. Abodeely would take e-mail addresses of people who posted to the sites' forum pages, then send the victims an offer to become a member of the Web site for a fee of $19.99 to $59.99. The offer led victims to believe they had a five-day free trial period, but they were unable to cancel their memberships. Their accounts were already debited the fee amount. Cedar Rapids police arrested Abodeely after a two-year investigation into the genealogy Web site. He also faces theft and ongoing criminal conduct charges. 1. [DEKENT] PATTY CANNON featured on PBS History Detectives
    2. Adina Watkins Dyer
    3. A few nights ago on our local PBS station (Indianapolis) we came across a program called History Detectives. In this episode they were discussing Patty Cannon. Below is the description of the episode: "Portrait of George Washington, Patty Cannon, Trumpet" (#104) Portrait of George Washington - Frederick, Maryland - Could a portrait passed down through a Frederick, Maryland family actually be an authentic portrait of the nation's first president, George Washington? That is the charge for the History Detectives in this fascinating episode. The investigators attempt to prove whether or not the famed artist Gilbert Stuart, whose resume includes the portrait of Washington that appears on today's dollar bills, was the artist behind the drawing in question. Might this drawing prove to be a national treasure? Patty Cannon - Federalsburg, Maryland - Could a Maryland family's home once have been the headquarters for the kidnapper and slave trader Patty Cannon, coined "the most wicked woman in America?" Legend has it that she was a villainous woman who stole slaves and kidnapped free African-Americans to sell them back to plantation owners. Now the History Detectives team investigates to see if they can prove once and for all that this is in fact the former home of Patty Cannon. Will they be able to draw long-sought-after conclusions or will the mystery remain? Trumpet - Bucks County, Pennsylvania - Is a Philadelphia man's trumpet which he bought at a local auction, somehow tied to the Revolutionary War? That is the mystery the History Detectives solve this time around. Inscribed with the name "Captain Lewis," the trumpet appears to have been used by the aforementioned captain during the battles that won America's independence from England. Will the trumpet prove to be a valuable piece of American history? I checked the Maryland PBS station near the Caroline Co. area (call letters MPT, http://www.mpt.org/ ), and it aired this program on the 17th but is replaying it Monday, August 18, at 8:00 p.m. If you don't live in this area check your local PBS station's website for dates and times this show will air. We only caught the last few minutes of it, but I plan on taping the entire program when they re-air it at 3 a.m this morning. Adina Dyer

    1. [DEKENT] LAWRENCE Surname
    2. Amy Tillman
    3. I just tracked down a branch of my family tree to Kent County, DE. I'm new to this list, and to research in this state. Hoping someone has some info or direction for me. I'm looking for Isabelle Lawrence. She was married to C. A. Lawrence, and they lived in Delaware in 1926, according to my research. I did find her in the 1930 Census, residing in Kent County, only not with her husband. She was living with her brother-in-law, William Lawrence. There were 2 children listed, William and Dorothy, but I'm unclear as to whether they were William's or Isabelle's kids. Anyway, Isabelle was 40 years old in 1930. Her brother-in-law (William) was 41, and the two children were 18 (William) and 15 (Dorothy). Isabelle's maiden name was Oglesby, and she was born in Indiana. Is anyone researching this surname or family? Isabelle was my great-aunt, and has been a real challenge to track down. I would love to know what came of her and her family. Any suggestions would be appreciated . . . Amy in Nebraska

    3. Dear List Members, If you were effected by the Comcast buy out, then you need to read this, if not delete it. Just this evening, I have receive over 100 requests for me to change e-mail address to a Comcast address. Many of these requests mention multiple lists of which the sender needs their e-mail address changed. It will take me a good week or so to get through them all. My suggestion is; If you still have the ability to unsubscribe go to PASSWORD Central at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ type in your old e-mail address, and follow the directions. You will receive an e-mail from which you can unsubscribe. If you can't do this, then you will just need to re-subscribe with your new address and let the old one bounce off. To re-subscribe this go to John Fuller's mailing list site http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html or remember you can subscribe and or unsubscribe by sending only the word UNSUBSCRIBE or SUBSCRIBE to XXXXXX-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM or XXXXXX-D-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM if you are on the Digest List. 3. 1850 Census, Duck Creek, Kent County, Delaware Charles White, age 72, no occupation, born in Maryland Maria White, age 46, born Delaware John White, age 11, born Delaware Margaret White, age 8, born Delaware James T. White, age 5, born Delaware I believe that Charles is buried at Bryn Zion Church in Kent County, Delaware. Anyone familiar with this cemetery and its location? Not sure if Maria is there with him or not, but I'd like to check. Charles was born in 1777. He died 4/26/1859. After Charles' death, Maria appears to have moved to New Castle County, Delaware (Wilmington area) where she is running a boarding house on Tatnall Street. She's listed there in the 1860 census as a widow with John (age 33) and Rebecca Hurley (age 32) and a William T. Thompson, age 7. John, Rebecca and William are all listed as having been born in Delaware. Maria's maiden name may have been Matterford. I found a microfilm record that listed a Charles White and Maria Matterford married on or about 6/30/1838. I'm not sure where this marriage took place, but I assume Kent County. If any of this is familiar to anyone, please let me know. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated. I'm at a brick wall. Thanks! Melissa Cecil County, Maryland

    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. For those of you who are visiting the cemeteries and graves of your loved ones, your ancestors this weekend and have a few extra flowers, think of placing them on one of the lonely graves which are never visited. Or, if you are living in an area where you have no one, think of visiting a cemetery and placing flowers by one of these lonely graves. I live in Logan Utah and tomorrow I will be visiting several local cemeteries and will be placing flowers on graves. Over the past years I have adopted these graves, these people and I hope that someone out there is doing the same for my loved ones. This is the day to remember those who came before us, who forged the paths that we now walk. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

The collection consists of genealogical notes concerning several thousand families, with emphasis upon those living on the Delmarva Peninsula [Delaware, Maryland, Virginia]. The records range in content from the medieval period to 1935, but principally of the 17 th through 19 th centuries. The notes are arranged alphabetically by surname. Each fiche represents a folder in the original arrangement of the collection. The fiche is negative film and often difficult to read. There is an index on fiche 1-40. The index is arranged alphabetically by surname. Each entry includes a location (county, state, or country) and the reference. The reference may not be to material in this collection but to other documents, books, and articles." The original manuscript collection is in the Delaware State Archives, i believe. If you go to: http://www.state.de.us/sos/dpa/exhibits/Joseph%20Brown%20Turner/index.htm#To pOfPage you will find some of the pages which have been digitized and placed on-line by the DE State Archives. It includes information on the BREWER, BRIGHAM, GREENBURY, GRISWOLD, HALES, JACOBS, JOHNSTONE, LYBARGER, MARSHAM, MCCABE, RECORD, WINDER, WINGATE, and WOLLASTON families.
