    1. [DEKENT] DE Roster of Union Soldiers COMPLETED!!
    2. FINALLY!!!!!!  The DE Roster of Delaware Soldiers  <A HREF="http://www.bitsofblueandgray.com/roster.htm"> http://www.bitsofblueandgray.com/roster.htm</A>  is finally complete!!  All the names have been added to the website which appear in "The Roster of Union Soldiers  1861-1865" Edited by Janet Hewett, Broadfoot Publishing Co., Wilmington, NC 1998 Some other information has been added for some of the soldiers.  In some cases, there is even a picture of the soldier's grave maker.  I still have some information to add but I did want to get all the names on the site.  If you have a Delaware Civil War soldier and have any of the following info:  Birth, death dates, cemetery where buried, or any other pertinent info., please feel free to email it to me.  If you have a picture of the grave marker, sent that also and I will include it.  Please be sure it is a .jpg file. I will now be going thru the rosters listed in Schaarf's History of Delaware" to see if there are other names. Jayne McCormick MDelPa@aol.com aka   bitsobluengray@aol.com

    2. Jean Schorfheide
    3. Hello, folks! I apologize to anyone who tried to contact me this summer to do lookups in my Kent County Land Record books. I spent July thru mid-September in Illinois due to the illness and death of my mother. I had access to my e-mail, but believe I accidentally deleted a couple requests. Please contact me again if you didn't hear from me! I also found my copy of "Calendar of Kent County Delaware Probate Records 1680-1800", compiled by Leon deValinger, Jr., State Archivist, published by the Public Archives Commission, State of Delaware (Dover, 1944). I will do lookups for anyone interested. I'm unemployed right now, so I shouldn't take too long! <grin> If you have a common name, please be as specific as possible. Happy hunting! 1. [DEKENT] From List Mom - A few items to help you.
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, If you are interested in knowing about other mailing list out there, one of the very best inventories of genealogical mailing lists is John Fuller’s Genealogy Resources on the Internet located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html If you ever need to unsubscribe from this list or any rootsweb list all you need to do is visit Password Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will received an e-mail of all lists you belong to and from it you can unsubscribe from the ones you want to. Always know that I will be more than happy to help you if you are having problems unsubscribing, you only need to ask. Please send this request to KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net not to the entire list. If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search and from there you can search by dates. If you are having problem and I do not answer you right away, know that I will. I like many of you work full time outside of my home. I am fortunate that I can check my e-mail any time I wish, but know that there are spaces of time I cannot. I always check my e-mail each and every evening and will respond to message that need me then and there. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. When sending a posting to the list it would help if you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line. Doing this also might give you a better chance to attract the attention of someone who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for the information you are posting. Many members are on many many lists and when they see a subject line that reads "My Ancestors" they just delete it. 2. When posting a query regarding a surname it would help all of us if you would put your surname in CAPS. This way the members can easily pick out the surnames you are looking for. On the other hand when the entire message is in CAPS we feel that we are being yelled at. 3. Please remember to delete the tags and un-needed words when you re-send a message to the list with your answer. If you don't check this, your responses can become quite large and may cause problems with some of our member's servers. This member who might not be able to receive your message because of its size, just might be your long lost second cousin with all the answers you are looking for. 5. Remember to keep your Virus protection up to date and never open any attached file unless you are 100% sure what it is and even then you are taking a chance. 6. Now, the hardest thing is when one of our own, a fellow member becomes upset about a posting from one from one of us. It is so hard not to jump in and add our two cents. I want you to know how much I appreciate it when you just let these posting go by and delete them. Know that I am behind the scenes taking care of the problem. If you ever have a concern that I might have missed a message that needs addressed you are welcome to contact me during the day at Kathleen.burnett@era.com or in the evenings at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. 7. If your list has the gateway open, meaning the messages posted on the board also hit he list, know that every once in a while a SPAM message that is caught by the Board filter slips through the gateway and hits the list before it can be stopped. JUST DELETE IT. By responding the the list regarding he offending message, you just continue it on, and there is not one thing I can do about it at that point. Please remember, so that this list is better for each of us, the posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc., in other words Spam is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net I want to thank each of you for your continued support of me and your willingness to help make this list the success it is. It is your list and is here for your benefit. If you have suggestions or comments you would like in future reports, you only need to send them to me. 3. I have a very large oil painting I purchased in a junk shop in Delaware that was painted by a Kit Hammond.....no date. Does anyone on this list know of a Delaware or Delmarva artist by the name of Kit Hammond. The painting looks fairly old and the frame looks to be hand made. I would love to know more about the history of this artist. Kathleen Burnett

    1. [DEKENT] Foreacre & Dill Families
    2. Robert Wise
    3. Researching the above. Margaret Ann Aaron married Isaac Foreacres in 1823 they had the following children: Martha, Rebecca, Robert, Hanna and Isaac, When Isaac died Margaret married a Peterson and had a daughter Lydia born in PA. She later married William Dill. They had one son Joseph. I found them in the 1850 & 1860 Census living in Little Creek Hundred in Kent County. In the 1870 census I found an Isaac Foraker married to a Martha with 2 children, Magnolia and Zina, living in Dover. This maybe the son of Margaret & Isaac. I would like to hear from anyone researching these families and any help they can give me as to finding records in that area. Jan in S.E. TX

    1. [DEKENT] Elizabeth PARKER (?>MD>PA) Daniel CARTER (PA>MD>DE) families
    2. Dear PARKER and CARTER researchers, My great-great-great-great-grandmother was named Elizabeth PARKER.  I have been unable to locate ANY information on her besides that in the 1850 census. I am hopeful that if I share information I have about her spouse and children, someone out there might recognize her!  Maybe you!  (Don't you just love tracking down female ancestors?) And, of course, I am always interested in sharing/gathering information about my Carter clan. _________ Elizabeth PARKER (b. 1786-87 as per 1850 census)        married Daniel CARTER (b. Oct. 20, 1785, Carterville or Cartertown, Chester County, PA; d. March 12, 1851, Cecil County, MD). Given the birthplaces of their children, they must have lived in Carterville/Cartertown, Chester County, PA, when they were first married.  Later, they lived in nearby Cecil County, MD.  He died there; I have no information on her death as of yet. Their children were: (1) Joseph CARTER (b. Oct. 13, 1816; d. 1876) married Elizabeth HARGON. (2) James PARKER CARTER (b. Dec. 7, 1818, PA; d. Nov. 24, 1841, Cecil County, MD) married on July 2, 1840, in Cecil County, MD, to Frances Ann BARCUS (b. Feb. 14, 1822, MD; d. Dec. 9, 1860).         They had three children:              (a) Alfred BARCUS CARTER (b. Mar 29, 1841, MD; d. Mar. 29, 1911,                     Denton, Caroline Co., MD) married Lillian Ann MURPHY (b. Dec.                     10, 1839, MD; d. Feb. 17, 1921, Denton, Caroline Co., MD).                     Alfred and Lillian had six children; I can identify 5 of them and many of their descendants should anyone be interested.              (b) George Brown CARTER (b. Mar. 17, 1845, MD -- maybe OH as per                     1850 census; 1860 census says MD)              (c) Elizabeth CARTER (b. May 1, 1847, MD) married on Jan. 11, 1865,                     in Caroline County, MD, to William MURPHEY.                     (William Murphey and Lillian Ann Murphy are probably siblings,                     may be cousins.) (3) Daniel CARTER (b. July 10, 1820, PA; d. Sept. 3, 1865) married Martha E. HANNA. (4) Silas Evans CARTER (b. Dec. 18, 1823, PA; d. Sept. 15, 1854, prob. Cecil Co., MD) married Mary JANNEY. (5) Jeremiah CARTER (b. Apr. 17, 1827, PA; d. Sept. 1864) married Adaline WEST. I also have additional information on ELIZABETH PARKER and DANIEL CARTER's children and some of their offspring, as well as information on Daniel's ancestors should anyone care to exchange family information. Daniel is descended from Jeremiah CARTER and wife Mary UNKNOWN who settled in Chester County, PA, in 1782. Their land became known as Carterville (as per Thos. Maxwell Potts) and/or Cartertown (as per plaque in Carter family cemetery). Karen Carter Minneapolis, MN

    2. Hi list, I'm researching the CALLAWAY - CALLOWAY Families in Delaware & the Eastern Shore of Maryland. I came across the following census record -- I have not been able to fit Mary (M.?) Is there anyone who could look them up in the 1910 -1920 or 1930 Census records. I would like to know Clemma O. (Callaway) TALLEY's correct name. Maybe a marriage lookup would help me? 3. Dear List Members, I just ran across an interesting Website, "Courthouse Experiences" http://www.bcpl.net/~dmg/courthouse.htm Not every county is listed, but the ones listed gave helpful information regarding the attitudes of those working in the courthouses. I might suggest that if you have had a positive or negative courthouse experience you add them to this site. I now know how to prepare myself for several courthouses I want to visit later this year. 3. Amy, I'm not sure which road that they might have called Viola Rd at that time. Viola is an existing small town which sits about 9 miles south of Dover, Kent Co., Delaware. It sits just to the west of Rt. 13. I hope that this helps you out. May you have a wonderful day! Where is this? What town would this be today? Any help would be appreciated.
