I am trying to trace the James Maxwell, born Abt. 1650 family. Looking for descendents of James and his wife Alice Adams. Think they may have been in the Kent County area. Just starting so don't really know. Art

Hi, In July 1806 court minutes of Rutherford Co TN show that Curtis Calloway ( of Kent Co Delaware) purchased 300 acres in Kent Co from James Sanders (wife Rebecca), Archelus Lee (wife Rebecca), James Sanders, Samuel Sanders and Philip Sanders (all of Rutherford Co TN ). My guess is that these are Sanders / Saunders siblings that inherited the land in Delaware from a relative. 1800 census, Kent Co Delaware shows these SAUNDERS who might be related?? William Saunders, Middle distr. p 241 (no white males/females, 3 "others", 2 slaves) Richard Saunders, Middle distr p 241 (no white males/females, 4 "others", 0 slaves) John Saunders, Middle distr p 241 (males: 2 under 10yrs, 2 26-45yrs, females: 2 10-16yrs, 1 16-26yrs, 1 26-45yrs, 1 "others, 1 slave) Ann Saunders, Middle distr. p 235 (no white males/females, 5 "others", 0 slaves) George Saunders, Middle distr. p 235 ( males: 1 under 10 yrs, 1 10-16yrs, 1 16-26yrs, females: 1 26-45yrs, 0 others, 1 slave) Casey/Basey? Saunders no twp, p 246 (Males: 1 under 10, females: 2 26-45yrs, 1 over 45yrs, no others, no slaves) There are 3 families above who are not labeled "white". I find that very interesting as family tradition says there is indian blood in our Sanders. On 1810 census Kent Co Delaware, Curtis Calloway is living in Mispillion Hundred. I don't know if he is living on the 300 acres he bought in 1806 from the Sanders, but was there a Mispillion hundred on 1800 census?? Would appreciate any info at all that would help me identify the above Sanders/Saunders. I am new to this list and may only stay on it for a short time. Please answer directly to me if you have found it by searching the archives. Thanks for your time! Solveig Berry

John, Smyrna is a town in the northern part of Kent County, Delaware, just adjacent to New Castle County. In a quick glance of the Kent Co. Cemetery records, there are no Footen's buried in that county. On a SSI search it revealed the following information. Name: MARY FOOTEN SSN: 218-05-7522 Last Residence: 19977 Smyrna, Kent, DE Born: 20 Jan 1897 Last Benefit: 19952 Harrington, Kent, DE Died: Apr 1981 State (Year) SSN issued: MD (Before 1951 ) In the 1930 Census for Baltimore, Baltimore Co., Maryland there was a Mary Footen, age 33, born Maryland, and widowed. This might be your Mary if she did not get remarried. In 1930 there were 18 Footen's listed in a US census search. May you have a wonderful day! Pat, You are more than welcome! I'm very much aware of Tub Mill Pond, Clark's branch, Blair's Pond. There are numerous farm cemeteries across Delaware, some of which are so over grown and forgotten that this might be one of them. The Dill's did a pretty good job of collecting data from them. There have also been occasions where some farmers removed stones from the farm land to increase the tillable property. I wish you luck with your research. May you have a wonderful day! Best regards, Ed Ford -----Original Message----- From: PatCLARE@aol.com [mailto:PatCLARE@aol.com] Sent: Saturday, March 20, 2004 2:36 PM To: DEKENT-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [DEKENT] Re: DEKENT-D Digest V04 #14 Hi Ed, Thanks so much for looking for me. I think the Tub Mill Pond is on the north end of what was Swan Creek, and Fishing Creek was the next major stream over toward the Delaware River. Baucombrigg Creek has had its name corrupted over the years, but it runs into the Delaware...seems like its source is just above the beginnings of Fishing Creek. I really need a good old map to find these old water courses better. I think Beswick is a name associated with the old Hall family properties that were Mount Pleasant, If you are just north of Milford, you would be in a good spot....My Masons had Mason's Mill Pond in the 1790's and it used to be William Manlove's mill pond. Scharf in his history of Delaware located it on Swan Creek as the present Tub Mill Pond, but then somebody else put it out by Blair Pond, west of Milford. Many of the deeds I look at have the name Millers Landing, Ivy Creek, Clark's Branch, main branch of the Mispillion....they may be all one and the same! I am thinking New Wharf Road may go to the landing they talk about..... Thanks so much for your interest. Hi Ed, Thanks so much for looking for me. Pat
Elaine, Hello! There are numerous Alexander's in the Kent County Cemetery records, but there was no Phillip who died circa 1794. Sorry that I could not be of assistance to you. May you have a wonderful day! Pat, I can only assume that the burial location was that of an unmarked farm cemetery. I have a copy of the "Souls in Heaven, Names in Stone, Kent County, Delaware Cemetery Records", by the Dill, Dill, & Dill, published in 1989 and the name of Daniel Mason isn't listed. I actually live just north of Milford, DE, which is intersected by the Mispillion River and I am not familiar with the branches that are named here. I was I could have helped you out here. He was the son of the Quaker family of Isaac Mason b 1728 and Catherine. In it he speaks of building a wall around the family burial ground : Item seventh: "I hereby authorize and direct my executors to enclose the old family burying ground, on my farm called "Mason Farm" now in the tenure of Evan Morgan (all of the same ground which is now enclosed) with a substantial wall as follows; the wall to be of hard brick eighteen inches thick from the foundation up to one foot above ground; Then thirteen inches thick up to four feet above ground; Then the top to be capt with slab-stone; with a wrought iron gate and fixtures; all to be done out of good materials and in workman-like manner; And the expenses of the same to be paid out of my estate. I transcribed the will of Daniel Mason made in 1846 with a codicile in 1852. He was the son of the Quaker family of Isaac Mason b 1728 and Catherine. Would anyone be able to place this cemetery today? Masons lived in Mispillion Hundred in the old tracts called Saw Mill Range and Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant was between Beaver Dam Branch and Swan Creek, just on the north side of the Mispillion River. Any help appreciated.
