    1. [DEKENT] New Message Board: Huguenots in America
    2. Hi list, I received this from another mailing list! :) Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS) Message Boards - Huguenots http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/board/an/topics.immigration.us.hugenot [Note the spelling in the link; "hugenot" is not the correct spelling, but that's how they've spelled it at Ancestry. com.] While looking for information on several of my Huguenot [i.e., French Protestants] ancestors who emigrated from Europe to New York and Pennsylvania, the only message board I found regarding Huguenots appears to be limited to research on Huguenots in Europe. As a result, I requested a message board for research on Huguenots who settled in the American colonies in the 17th and 18th centuries; and happily, Ancestry.com approved the request. There were Huguenot settlements all along the eastern seaboard -- New England, New York, Pennsylvania (Lancaster, Berks, and Montgomery counties, especially), Virginia, and South Carolina -- and these are the ones of which I'm aware. If you have information or questions about your Huguenot ancestors, please post your questions to this message board, so we can all learn together. I am not -- repeat NOT -- the board administrator, nor am I an expert in this area. It is my hope that researchers with much more expertise in this area will share their knowledge via this new Huguenot Message Board. If you don't happen to have Huguenots in your background, please share this message with other lists to which you might subscribe. I currently subscribe only to Chester County and Delaware County, PA genealogy lists, and your passing this information along is appreciated. There is also a Huguenots listserv; but since I subscribed for the digest and this is a holiday weekend, I don't know yet how active the list is. Again, thanks for your patience with this non-Chester County/Delaware County related message. Karen (the other one in Delaware County!) 1. [DEKENT] POORHOUSE Information
    2. Poor House Lady
    3. We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com Please excuse the cross posting ... but we are so excited! We just posted information about what the Delaware Public Archives have put online in their Digital Archives! The Kent County Pauper Books! A register of the infirm and poor inmates of the county almshouse. Deaths and births are also included. These are actual images (and readable!) of the pages of these books for the following years: 1815, 1826, 1842, 1852. Take a look!!! DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on DELAWARE on the table of states. You will find the new information at the top of the page with a big yellow NEW arrow. (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)

    3. Kathleen, Betty KNOTTS published a book the Knotts Family" in 1999. It primarily covers the KNOTT(S) in Kent co DE, QA, Caroline, and Kent co MD, and their descendants. She is thinking of a third and probably final reprint. Would it be alright to ask on the list for people to contact me personally off list if they would be interested in a copy? No one will make any profit from this book except the printer,. 1. [DEKENT] LANKS of Milford
    2. Woody Stephens
    3. I am looking for information on the family of my mother's maternal grandmother, Annie May LANK, born ca. 1870 in Milford or its environs. While working in Philadelphia ca. 1890, she married Samuel A. HANEY, a widower with a son, Samuel W. HANEY. She had one daughter, Ella Call HANEY, my mother's mother. Annie May LANK had at least two siblings, a sister whose name I did not get (she married a Scott from Lewes, I believe) and a brother, Ed. My mother remembers going to Milford each Memorial Day in the late 20's and early thirties (she was born in 1920) and recalls that the Memorial day parade was led by "Uncle Ed" LANK in uniform, riding a horse. She does not know what his military service was, nor can she remember what color the uniform was, but said that he was elderly at the time, which would probably rule out W.W.I. He may have possibly served in the Spanish American War, the Indian Wars (doubtful), or simply the Delaware Militia. She recalls that he was a town official, possibly the mayor or a councilman depending on the form of government at the time. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
