    3. I'm getting ready to go to the library to look at the Vaudreuil Papers again....so I'm doing some preliminary preparation.... and I came across something weird... have you all noticed this before? ----------------------------- On Page 261 of Land Records of the Attakapas District Volume I The Attakapas Domesday Book there is an entry #9 "Degruy, Jean Baptiste, Commissioners Report No. 35, 530.73 ac. [PM] ASP, III, 119, 126. 1815, May 1 - Certificate issued to DeGruy, Jean Baptiste. Claim was for 40 x 40 arpts. on both sides of Teche. Requete, dated Nov. 25, 1776, by claimant for him- self and brothers for 40 x 40 on east side of Teche and such depth on west side as might be found to a swamp in the back, bounded on one side by the settlement of the Dutch [DeGruy was Dutch], (italics & boldface, mine) and running toward Fausse Pointe. Order of survey issued by Galvez, June 19, 1777. Confirmation was for only 261 sup. arpts. because anything larger infringed on older titles. SCD, 6-A. Information provided here applies also to 12-7-61 & 62. Date obliterated on microfilm copy. Survey of tract by Johnson, James L. Tract found ot contain 785.29 sup. ac" ------------------------------ Comments: Wow, Dutch?????!!!! I've heard French... I've heard Swiss... but Dutch? Now there is a Dutch guy who has done a lot of work on the Degruys and he has an extensive genealogy on them... mostly on Dutch ones...Bob Patout has this, David Perrin has it and I have it...... and he has a website and you can go online and download it.....I'd have to really look to find the url..... Point is... I've thought of our Antoine as French....born at Versailles, etc... yet here we have a reference to Dutch.... So... guys....what do you make of this! ---------------------------------- The reason I'm going to the library is that I can't figure out why the children of Antoine and Marie Therese don't appear in the birth records from Kaskaskia, Fort de Chartres, etc. It looks like some were born in Illinois and some in NO. How did that happen? As far as I can tell Jean Baptiste was born in NO and baptized at St. Louis Cathedral. Antoine Dufouchard, however, is said to be "a native of Islas Negras [Illinois] in this province." Not sure about their births but Marie Therese and Marie Francoise... the two Degruy girls who married 2 Boutte boys [Francois and Antoine] are said to have been married in St. Mary's Parish in 1778.... double wedding? same date? I'm assuming that is St. Mary's Parish in Illinois.... Joseph Verloin is said to have been born in 1752 in Kaskaskia,.....in aother record the Red Church of St. Charles Parish....so which????? What do you all have for all of this.... how can we be sure? when there are two different records for same person.... and what do you think about The Dutch Connection written from the State of Perpetual Genealogical Confusion [is that Missouri? ha ha] Renee
