    2. BODY OF VETERAN FOUND ON TRACKS Victim Killed on Eve of Return to Army The mangled body of a 34-year-old Army veteran, apparently run over by a train, was discovered about 1:30 a. m. Friday on the Texas & Pacific railroad tracks next to the batture at St. Charles and S. Carrollton. He was identified as Lloyd DeGruy, 34, 428 Short. Second District police said his left arm and leg had been severed. The left side of his face showed severe contusions and lacerations, they added, although there was no indication of foul play. Police said De Gruy's body was found by Victor F. Pompenella, 66, who was on his way to his home on the batture. He was pronounced dead at 1:55 a. m. by a Charity hospital physician, who told police the man had been dead about an hour. Police said De Gruy had been at a bar with his stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Wren, with whom he lived at the Short st. address. Leaving the establishment at Hickory and Maple about 10:30 p. m. Thursday, De Gruy told them he planned to visit a small house on the batture that he formerly owned. De Gruy's mother said he had rejoined the Army Transportation Corps recently. He already had been inducted, she told police, and was to leave Friday afternoon for Fort Sam Houston, Tex. Police learned that a Texas & Pacific train had left the Mississippi river bridge at 11:30 p. m. Thursday, using the inbound tracks on which De Gruy's body was found. Police are to question crewmen on the train. DE GRUY - On Friday morning, June 22, 1951, at 1 o'clock, LLOYD DE GRUY, son of Laura Conliff and the late Charles De Gruy; stepson of Thomas C.
