F. Salomon, New Orleans, La., secretary and treasurer of the board of health of the state of Louisiana and a physician who has won an enviable reputation in his profession, was born in New Orleans on August 21, 1850, and his parents, William and Francoise Elode [De Gruy] Salomon, were natives of New Orleans also. The Salomon family is of English and the De Gruy of French descent and both were early settlers of New Orleans. William Salomon was a cotton merchant and died in 1881. Of the twelve children born to his marriage, seven sons and five daughters, Dr. L. F. Salomon was third in order of birth. He graduated from the high school of his native city in 1868 and immediately afterward began the study of medicine, subsequently entering the medical department of the University of Louisiana and graduating from that institution in 1872. He was visiting surgeon to the Charity hospital for several years, and for three years, during the existence of the Charity Hospital Medical college, he was adjunct professor of surgery. He has also been in private practice since graduating. Since 1884 he has been visiting physician to Shakespeare almshouse. He was elected a member of the board of health in 1884 and has been secretary and treasurer since 1886. Dr. Salomon has built up a good practice and has brought himself prominently before the public as a specialist in skin diseases, although he does a general practice. His office is located in the Morris building and his office hours are from 3 to 4:30 P. M. Socially he is a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Knights of Honor. He was married in 1885."
