B. PHILLIPS and Aristine BIENVENU, of this city, accompanied by Messrs. DeARMAS and DuBERTRAND on the part of the former, and by Mr. Chas. BIENVENU on the part of the latter, together with Dr. SCOTT, surgeon, and four or five friends of the parties, disembarked from the early Mobile train at Bay St. Louis, and retired to a convenient spot in the neighborhood for the purpose of arranging a misunderstanding then pending between them. The spot selected is what is well known as Nicholson Avenue, which led to the hotel of that name. The choice of positions having been won by Mr. PHILLIPS, the distance, forty paces, was measured off, and the weapons, shot-guns, loaded with ball, placed in the hands of the principals. At the word, both fired, Mr. PHILLIPS ball entering near the eye of Mr. BIENVENU, the gentleman falling and instantly expiring even before he was reached by his friends, the ball penetrating backward into the brain. Immediately after the unfortunate termination of the affair, the party returned to the city, reaching here on the 4 O'clock, P. M., train, the body being immediately removed to Dr. GRAYER's undertaking establishment, where it was prepared for Interment. The difficulty, which terminated thus tragically originated, it appears, in a law suit, which resulted in a challenge being sent by Mr. B., which was promptly responded to by Mr. PHILLIPS. All the gentlemen connected are well known in the city, Mr. BIENVENU being a broker, and Mr. PHILLIPS a lawyer of some prominence. It is not thought any action will be taken by the authorities in the premises, as the friends of Mr. BIENVENU express themselves satisfied that the affair was conducted in the most honorable and unexceptionable manner.--N.
