    3. Hello List, I'm a little curious to see how you all are handling this collection of Degruy descendant branches. Here's a little experiment to see how our Degruy list lines can be of service. I note that several of you [nancy24_2001@yahoo.com imbrowax@yahoo.com dugruise@charter.net] descend from Joseph Degruy and Adeline Diaz. G5 7th Jean Baptiste Degruy & Marie Therese Aufrere G4 6th Joseph Verloin Degruise & Marie Couturier G3 5th Duminie Verloin Degruise & Charlotte Falgout G2 4th Joseph Dumini Degruise & Adeline Diaz So my question is.... did you three know each other before this Degruy@Rootsweb.com list? Did you know that you each came from the same branch of descent? Will knowing this encourage you to confer with each other and compare notes on your shared heritage? Will you check with each other to see if there are any shared family stories about your line? And a question for everyone: What do you think about the potential for using the list lines in this way? Have you looked to see who else on the list is close to your particular line of descent? Can you think of any other possibilities for advancing our mutual investigation of our heritage by conferring based on these mutualities? I'm wondering what might happen if all those from a particular branch would work together in fleshing out as much information on that particular branch as possible. Theoretically, at the end, we could simply combine all the various results from all the various lines. In this way much more might be accomplished than if one or two people try to do Every Single Individual....all by themselves. Anyone have any ideas about all of this? R

    2. At first I had a very hard time finding out any information on the De Gruy line, but now I am sometimes overwhelmed with all the information I have. My oldest son has an auto glass business in La Place and on numerous occasions, people go into the shop and ask information as they are either De Gruy's or, married to one. They leave a phone number and I call them and we share information. One thing I am very curious about is that I would love to know what Antoine looked like. The picture of Charles De Gruy on the website shows he had the same outstanding blue eyes as my husband, but, I've come across quite a few De Gruy's who have brown eyes. I met Lou's son at a De Gruy reunion and he and my youngest son could pass for brothers - they are 3 years apart in age. I don't remember the color of his eyes, but all my children have blue eyes. I recently met another DE Gruy descendant at the opening of a small restaurant in this area. It simply amazes me at times. I find it very interesting to know some of these things, especially after I read the excerpts about Degruise recently. I try to incorporate all the lines on my computer, knowing someday I may meet some of them which would be great. sd ---- Degruy List Administrator <listadministratordegruyl@earthlink.net> wrote: > Hello List, > > I'm a little curious to see how you all are handling this collection of > Degruy descendant branches. > > Here's a little experiment to see how our Degruy list lines can be of > service. > > I note that several of you [nancy24_2001@yahoo.com > imbrowax@yahoo.com dugruise@charter.net] > descend from Joseph Degruy and Adeline Diaz. > G5 7th Jean Baptiste Degruy & Marie Therese Aufrere > G4 6th Joseph Verloin Degruise & Marie Couturier > G3 5th Duminie Verloin Degruise & Charlotte Falgout > G2 4th Joseph Dumini Degruise & Adeline Diaz > > So my question is.... did you three know each other before this > Degruy@Rootsweb.com list? > Did you know that you each came from the same branch of descent? > Will knowing this encourage you to confer with each other and compare > notes on your shared heritage? > Will you check with each other to see if there are any shared family > stories about your line? > > And a question for everyone: What do you think about the potential for > using the list lines in this way? > Have you looked to see who else on the list is close to your particular > line of descent? > Can you think of any other possibilities for advancing our mutual > investigation of our heritage by conferring based on these mutualities? > > I'm wondering what might happen if all those from a particular branch > would work together in fleshing out as much information on that > particular branch as possible. 3. Hello Rene and Members I also am curious about other family members and like hearing some of their stories. I knew Orelie and I have been in contact with him by phone. Bill and Robin are also decendent from Joseph and Charlotte, one generation back. I don't have much stories on the Degruise family. I may be able to find a picture of Augustave Degruise and Delvina Champange (1892), if it is of interest to any one. My great grandfather died at age 44. His eldest son was 14 when he died. His widow was 33 when he died. She was left with 10 children, the youngest being a few weeks old. (Hard times) Her elder son, my gramdpa, helped her raise his siblings. They lived in Lafourche parish. My grandpa's sisters married and moved in the New Orleans area. His 2 brothers stayed in the Lafourche and Terrebonne area. I look forward to hearing from others and sharing.
