    3. Good Afternoon, While working with some issues of Terrebonne Life Lines I came across the following article regarding the Chauvins. [They relate to our DeGruys through the Fazendes and Harangs.] I'm not including the whole article; just those relevant to us “The Chauvin’s of Illinois County and Louisiana” compiled by Ruth B. Voss; found on page 30 of Terrebonne Life Lines, Summer 1987, Vol. 6 No.2 1st and 2nd Generation Pierre Chauvin [dit Grand Pierre]; b. 1631 at Lion d’Angers in the province of Anjou, France; d. Aug. 4, 1699; son of René Chauvin and Catherine Avard of Solesne, France. Pierre arrived in New France [Canada] in 1652. By March 3, 1653, he was established in the parish of Ville Marie [Montreal, Canada]; where he obtained a land grant in the same vicinity as the one obtained by Charles LeMoyne, the father of Pierre and Jean Baptiste LeMoyne, the founders in 1699 of the Louisiana Colony. On Sept. 18, 1658, Pierre married fourteen year old Marthe Autreuil [Le ´hAutreux]; b. [ca] 1644; d. Feb. 25, 1714; daughter of René Autreuil [Le h’Autreux] and Francoise Le Chaunerlliar of the parish of Noyen in the province of Anjou, France. The union of Grand Pierre and Marthe produced eleven children. Following the custom of the period, the sons of Pierre Chauvin; as the sons of Charles LeMoyne; when they became of age, added to their family names such places as [most of which are shown as suburbs of present day maps of Montreal, Canada] de Lery, le Beauleau, de la Freniere, Bienville and Iberville. 3rd Generation [Not giving all here; see article for full citation] Children of Pierre Chauvin and Marthe Autreuil [Le hÁutreux]: 1. Marie Marthe Chauvin; 2. Pierre Chauvin; 3. Barbe Therese Chauvin; 4. Gillis Chauvin; 5. Michelle Chauvin; 6.Jacques Chauvin 7. Joseph Chauvin de Lery 8. Nicholas Chauvin de la Freniere: [one of the four brothers who came to Mobile with Bienville] bapt. Jan. 19, 1676 in Montreal, Canada; d. 1749; m. Marguerite le Sueur of Mobile, Ala.; daughter of Pierre Charles le Sueur and Marguerite Messier. 9. Louis Chauvin le Beauleau 10. Paul Chauvin 11. Jean Baptiste Chauvin ---------------------------------- That is the end of my selection from the article. Now follows my own understanding of how the Chauvins connect to our DeGruys...
