Thanks, Betty. I think this is an Excellent example of how the descendants of a particular line might have a lot better luck on straightening out confusions than those from another - or more distant line; which supports our attempts to share our direct lineages. BTW, I have Auguste married to Marie Dervina Florestan, but I have nothing more on Marguerite than her birth date of 6 Dec 1857. I suspect Orelie may have given this information on your branch to me a couple of years ago. The partial sentence posted came from an entry by Samuel Wilson, Jr., FAIA, entitled "Architecture of Early Sugar Plantations" in the "Green Fields" book referenced. Wilson attributes that particular quote to the 1966 translation of the 1807 work by C.C.Robin, "Voyage to Louisiana". I have a hazy recollection that this may have been posted here some time ago, but the complete sentence is: "A Creole named De Gruise, a descendant of one of the French officers who came out at the founding of the colony, without instruction, but by native ability, found that an angular edifice was both displeasing to the eye and wasteful of material, but circular construction was too difficult for the local colonial laborers. M. de Gruise had heard of la Halle in Paris [the central market of Paris now known as Les Halles] and from descriptions of it, he had built in brick two leagues from the city, on his house, a rotunda so like it, that on seeing it I expressed astonishment. I was even more astounded upon learning how M. de Gruise had conceived and executed the work." -----Original Message----- From: degruy-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:degruy-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Degruy List Administrator Sent: Saturday, August 14, 2010 8:49 PM To: GEN DEGRUY Mailing list at Rootsweb Subject: [DEGRUY] snippet view from Google Books This is all I have... but maybe someone "out there" has the actual book and can finish the sentence: Green fields, Two Hundred Years of Louisiana Sugar: a catalog ... OK... Let's get this straightened out. I'll give what I have and if any of you have something different, please help us make sure everything is correct. Joseph Dumini Verloin DeGruy [son of Joseph Verloin DeGruy & Marianne Couturier] who was married to Carlotta [Charlotte] Falgout [dau of George Antoine "Beaumont" Falgout and Marguerite Marie Chauvin] had 7 children: Marie Laura married to Leon Picou Joseph Dumini Verloin married to Adeline Diaz Marguerite Virginie married to Joseph Picou Charlotte Celina married to Athenore Guidroz Marie Letitia Verloin married to Henri Hippolyte Michelet Marianne Hermina Verlain [Verloin?] married to Justin Champagne Marie Pamela Verloin married to Hermogene Picou & Jean Celestin Is that what you all have? Question: Was Joseph Dumini married to anyone else besides Adeline Diaz? Did he have 7 or 10 children? Please let me know if there are mistakes here. Hello Rene and Members I also am curious about other family members and like hearing some of their stories. I knew Orelie and I have been in contact with him by phone. Bill and Robin are also decendent from Joseph and Charlotte, one generation back. I don't have much stories on the Degruise family. I may be able to find a picture of Augustave Degruise and Delvina Champange (1892), if it is of interest to any one. My great grandfather died at age 44. His eldest son was 14 when he died. His widow was 33 when he died. She was left with 10 children, the youngest being a few weeks old. (Hard times) Her elder son, my gramdpa, helped her raise his siblings. They lived in Lafourche parish. My grandpa's sisters married and moved in the New Orleans area. His 2 brothers stayed in the Lafourche and Terrebonne area. I look forward to hearing from others and sharing. At first I had a very hard time finding out any information on the De Gruy line, but now I am sometimes overwhelmed with all the information I have. My oldest son has an auto glass business in La Place and on numerous occasions, people go into the shop and ask information as they are either De Gruy's or, married to one. They leave a phone number and I call them and we share information. One thing I am very curious about is that I would love to know what Antoine looked like. The picture of Charles De Gruy on the website shows he had the same outstanding blue eyes as my husband, but, I've come across quite a few De Gruy's who have brown eyes. I met Lou's son at a De Gruy reunion and he and my youngest son could pass for brothers - they are 3 years apart in age. I don't remember the color of his eyes, but all my children have blue eyes. I recently met another DE Gruy descendant at the opening of a small restaurant in this area. It simply amazes me at times. I find it very interesting to know some of these things, especially after I read the excerpts about Degruise recently. I try to incorporate all the lines on my computer, knowing someday I may meet some of them which would be great. sd ---- Degruy List Administrator <listadministratordegruyl@earthlink.net> wrote: > Hello List, > > I'm a little curious to see how you all are handling this collection of > Degruy descendant branches. > > Here's a little experiment to see how our Degruy list lines can be of > service. > > I note that several of you [nancy24_2001@yahoo.com > imbrowax@yahoo.com dugruise@charter.net] > descend from Joseph Degruy and Adeline Diaz. > G5 7th Jean Baptiste Degruy & Marie Therese Aufrere > G4 6th Joseph Verloin Degruise & Marie Couturier > G3 5th Duminie Verloin Degruise & Charlotte Falgout > G2 4th Joseph Dumini Degruise & Adeline Diaz > > So my question is.... did you three know each other before this > Degruy@Rootsweb.com list? > Did you know that you each came from the same branch of descent? > Will knowing this encourage you to confer with each other and compare > notes on your shared heritage? > Will you check with each other to see if there are any shared family > stories about your line? > > And a question for everyone: What do you think about the potential for > using the list lines in this way? > Have you looked to see who else on the list is close to your particular > line of descent? > Can you think of any other possibilities for advancing our mutual > investigation of our heritage by conferring based on these mutualities? > > I'm wondering what might happen if all those from a particular branch > would work together in fleshing out as much information on that > particular branch as possible. Hello List, I'm a little curious to see how you all are handling this collection of Degruy descendant branches. Here's a little experiment to see how our Degruy list lines can be of service. I note that several of you [nancy24_2001@yahoo.com imbrowax@yahoo.com dugruise@charter.net] descend from Joseph Degruy and Adeline Diaz. G5 7th Jean Baptiste Degruy & Marie Therese Aufrere G4 6th Joseph Verloin Degruise & Marie Couturier G3 5th Duminie Verloin Degruise & Charlotte Falgout G2 4th Joseph Dumini Degruise & Adeline Diaz So my question is.... did you three know each other before this Degruy@Rootsweb.com list? Did you know that you each came from the same branch of descent? Will knowing this encourage you to confer with each other and compare notes on your shared heritage? Will you check with each other to see if there are any shared family stories about your line? And a question for everyone: What do you think about the potential for using the list lines in this way? Have you looked to see who else on the list is close to your particular line of descent? Can you think of any other possibilities for advancing our mutual investigation of our heritage by conferring based on these mutualities? I'm wondering what might happen if all those from a particular branch would work together in fleshing out as much information on that particular branch as possible. Theoretically, at the end, we could simply combine all the various results from all the various lines. In this way much more might be accomplished than if one or two people try to do Every Single Individual....all by themselves. Anyone have any ideas about all of this? R

Here's an article about this particular email scam at cnn.com: <http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/03/28/greene.email.scam/index.html>
This happened to an acquaintance of mine, except the email was from Cardiff Wales. In that case, emailed her (didn't have a phone number), which I have also done with Jerry. She emailed back, indicating that she must have had some control over her email. Perhaps they popped her email. ~Bonnie
I have a friend that this happened to....exactly the same letter....the only way to contact her after I got this e mail was by phone. She no longer had any control over her e mail account. Hope you get this Jerry. Jerry, Someone has stolen your email and has used it for "phishing". Better talk with Bellsouth. I have gotten three of these from you just this morning. --------------- Here is the email I just received: "Hey! I'm writing this with tears in my eyes,We came down here to London,England for a short vacation and We were mugged at gun point last night at the park of the hotel where we lodged all cash, credit cards and cell were stolen off us. We've been to the US embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all,Our flight leaves in less than 24hrs from now and we are having problems settling the hotel bills. The hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the hotel bills now we freaked out. We need your help. Regards." --------------- You'll need that complete Headers ... Oh Dear.... I don't have his phone number. Maybe someone "down there" with a current phone directory can give him a call for us. [I'm assuming he lives in NOLA... but he may not] Thanks Cheryl R CherylDSM@aol.com wrote: > I have a friend that this happened to....exactly the same letter....the > only way to contact her after I got this e mail was by phone.
