    3. Forgot to mention that many of the records in that last bunch I sent were written in a handwriting that was Most Difficult to decipher. So I have to put up a disclaimer about the spellings of many of the names ... or the names themselves. If I find a way of correcting any of these, I'll let you know. If you see any glaring discrepancies and can correct these, please let me know. Renée

    1. A Birth Announcement! [our Degruy Family Collaboration web site is up and running!]
    2. Degruy List Admin
    3. Dear Degruy Family Researcher, We have a wonderful announcement to make. Our Degruy web site is up and running! We invite you to take a look. Instructions for how to do this are at the end of this e-mail. Just a few words about our new site. This is a collaboration site and you are invited to participate. We are mainly interested at this phase of uploading original documents. Because we are very concerned about the size of files and the amount of data we can "fit" into this site, we ask you to submit any postings/photos you'd like to add to Celine Degruy Johnson at her e-mail address [ cmj@acsalaska.net ] and let Celine do the actual posting. That way she can keep track of the size of the individual files in relationship to the total space provided on the web site. Please be patient with the uploading. We have many vital records yet to be scanned and uploaded and this takes time. We've been working for over a week and are only 1/3 of the way into the records we have collected so far [and we are getting more and more all the time, thanks to Judy Riffel]. We understand that this isn't a "beautiful" family site [like the Bustanoby site at http://www.bustanobys.com ]. Our web site is more of a "work horse" kind of site. Maybe someday we can have a beautiful site too; but, for now, we are just happy to be able to provide a great amount of primary data -- no small feat, I think. Nor are we yet at the stage of linking individuals into family trees. Again, that is a project further along down the line. But, with all the primary data, we feel confident that when we do reach that point, we will have accurate data to enter. So we continue with taking our "baby steps." Finally, we owe a great debt of gratitude to Celine [hip hip hooray! trumpets! fanfare!]. She is the one who got our web site up and running. She has been working daily for weeks on this. We also want to give a "thumbs up!" to Bonnie Bess Wood who is our "official genealogy library angel." Bonnie is devising "professional" ways to label our files and organize our data. We look forward to having you join us in this collaborative project. Instructions for joining follow below. If you have trouble, send Celine or me an e-mail and we'll try to help. Once you log on, browse the site, take the Online Tour [under Utilities], consider making a contribution of your own! Welcome! 1. two messages from a new list member
    2. Degruy List Admin
    3. Hi, I received the following two messages from one of our new list members, Robert Judice. Robert sent it to me and I thought it was interesting and asked if I might share it with the rest of you. He attached a link to the painting of Pierre Degruy that many of you have seen; but, as no attachments can be posted to Degruy-l because of Rootsweb rules, I am unable to forward that. If you've never seen the painting of Pierre Degruy [in the La State Museum, contact me offline and I'll forward it to you] I am italicizing the very interesting parts of his message. Wouldn't it be something if we could get Antoine Valentines baptismal certificate in French!!! And what about the note to Bienville! Surely would love to see that as well!! This is exciting! Robert's message: <<Pierre Verlon de Gruy by unidentified artist.htm>> Thought you would be interested in this portrait of Pierre Verloin DeGruy supposedly painted in 1822 now in the collection of the Louisiana State Museum. Marie Francoise Hyacinthe Verloin DeGruy married Antoine Boutte and three of their daughters married three Judice brothers. Jacques Judice married Marie Louise Hyacinthe Boutte which is my direct ancestor. I certainly look forward to your E-Mails and the information they provide. I am in contact with a fellow SAR in France who is helping locate the baptismal record of the first DeGruy who came over as a officer in the French Navy and baptized either the parish church of Versailles or the Royal Chapel in the Palace, if successful, will send you a copy. Part of another message from Robert: You may post it if you wish to the others. His father apparently was an officer in the army and was at Versailles...... I am looking for a copy of a note written by the conte de Maurepas to Bienville sent to me by a distant cousin. This note was an introduction of Ensign DeGruy to Bienville and when found will send you a copy. I have to admit I'm a little confused by this. We know that Antoin Valentine Degruÿsverloin was born in France at Versailles. But his Father???? Was Antoine's Father also an officer in the army and at Versailles or is this mixing up Antoine with his Father..... Perhaps I am misunderstanding....We'll see....Anyway lots of interesting possibilities here..... Thanks, Robert!

    1. Primary records request
    2. Rene: I will be going to the Archives in Baton Rouge early March, 2005. I will check the indices there for those names. I do not think there will be a birth record from that early a date (1779). The Archdiocese might have a baptismal record. I think there will be a death record. In any case, I will look and if I find anything will bring back copies. I think you have a friend in BR who goes to the Archives and gets b/m/d records for you. She may be able to get this quicker than I can.
