He attached a link to the painting of Pierre Degruy that many of you have seen; but, as no attachments can be posted to Degruy-l because of Rootsweb rules, I am unable to forward that. If you've never seen the painting of Pierre Degruy [in the La State Museum, contact me offline and I'll forward it to you] I am italicizing the very interesting parts of his message. Rene: I will be going to the Archives in Baton Rouge early March, 2005. I will check the indices there for those names. I do not think there will be a birth record from that early a date (1779). The Archdiocese might have a baptismal record. I think there will be a death record. In any case, I will look and if I find anything will bring back copies. I think you have a friend in BR who goes to the Archives and gets b/m/d records for you. She may be able to get this quicker than I can.

I do have the marriage record: 9 Mar 1816 SLC vol 12, SLC, M6, 169 “This is to Certify that Pedro Verloin Degruys, native and resident of New Orleans, Son of Joseph Verloin Degruys and Mariana Couturier and Azelia St. Amand, native and resident of this parish, Daughter of Miguel St. Amand and Francisca Zeringue were lawfully married on the 9th day of March 1816 According to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church Rev. Antonio de Sedella officiated in the presence of Juan Phelipe Boutett and Alexandro St. Amand and Joseph Verloin Degruys, Witnesses. A true and exact extract fromt he Marriage Registers of St. Louis Cathedral which are now in the Archives of the Archdiocese of New Orleans Vol Marriage Book 3 Page 169 B Act No. 562, 1803-1821 Certified by Jack Belsom Date 19 July 2004” But I really, really need primary records... esp birth and baptism... but also death Anyone out there have anything????
