Renee, Please add two de Gruy descendants to our de Gruy list. They are Elaine Poche', daughter of Aida de Gruy Yochim; and Elaine's son Greg Holmes. Both are interested in our genealogy and can both benefit from and contribute to our de Gruy genealogy efforts. I have included both e-mail addresses on the cc line. Thank you! Best regards, Charles M. de Gruy From: listadministratordegruyl Sent: Thu 12/4/2008 1:41 PM To: GEN Degruy Mailing list at Rootsweb Subject: [DEGRUY] Antoine's Ahnentafel as of 4 Dec 08 [caution: may contain errors] Hi, This is Antoine's ahnentafel as of 4 Dec 2008. I'm able to submit it because Celine drew my attention to a notice from Geneanet that someone named D'Arsonval had information on the Degruy surname. I've been working with his material for almost two days yet and continue to find new items. Nevertheless I am submitting some of the data now, so others can get to work on it. Again, the following includes material found on Geneanet which comes from two of their contributors: Jean Claude D'Arsonval and Christian Mongin. Please let me know if you see any errors, so I can correct these as soon as possible. This is not ready for any kind of official publication because much has not been verified, but it is material which is additional to the research supplied by Msr. Chapelin, so there are many new names of heretofore unknown ancestors. I'm just submitting this now so that those who wish may get busy with research. What we need more than anything at this point is someone who is fluent in French who would help us with translation and research. I have been very limited in what I have been able to do on Geneanet because of my high school French. I limp along never sure if what I am translating is accurate. So if we can ever get an "official" Degruy list translator [ a volunteer since we don't have the funds to purchase help] we might really make some progress. Just keep in mind that this material is Not Ready for Publication, just material to use to do more serious research. We trust that whatever new developments might be discovered will be shared with the group. For a long time, I have suspected that the Carmouche family had ties to the Lafitte brothers. The small town of St. Amant was once a former planation of the Dapit St. Amant family. What year is that? It is possible that Judge St. Daspit St. Amant was a close friend of Zenon Boutte and his first cousin, Francois Cezar Boutte, Junior. There were many men, who masquaraded as Jean Lafitte, and the reason was in the event that the Federal authoritires ever raidied oen of thier hideouts, the business would continue as well as the authorities would get so confused with so many people saying, he is Jean Laftitte, no, he is Jean Lafitte, and no one would truly know the physical idenity of Jean Lafitte. One thing, Judge Daspit St. Amanet was well paid by the Lafitte brothers for favors, wonder if that is where the money came from for the plantation and the high mode lifestyle, happy Thanksigiving, kitty> Date: Sun, 23 Nov 2008 10:25:55 -0600> From: [email protected]> To: [email protected]> Subject: [DEGRUY] Ahoy ye Mateys> > OK.... nothing verified.... but there is a chance that those of us who > connect to the allied family Daspit de Saint Amand also connect to the > notorious pirate, Jean Lafitte.> > Where's a parrot when you need one?> > Just found a source saying that he Pierre Daspit de Saint-Amand [son of > Jean Pierre Daspit de Saint-Amand and Marianne Carmouche] was, in his > "public" life, a Judge over the Interior Parish of La Fourche, but in > his "private" life was Lafitte.> > Guess we should be paying closer attention to the movies of Johnny Depp....> > Thought you might like a little something to spice up your day.> > R> > PS signing off; gotta go catch a plane> The productivity of our Degruy list depends upon generosity in sharing family research.
