    3. It sounds like most SC surveyors did not bother to indicate a north orientation on their plats. I've done about 1200 plats in the Orangeburgh District and very, very few have north indicated. I have wondered though, if this is due to the surveyors leaving off the necessary notation or mark or was this something omitted by the clerks who made copies of the plats that SC researchers get to look at. I have not looked at very many original plats to find out....has anyone else working with SC plats seen many of the originals? And yes, this does leave you with many plats for which you cannot be certain of the orientation unless there are other clues...very frustrating at times! Even on the square plats, it can present a problem with trying to relate the plat to a stream or creek.
