Mr. Barrett, You are of course correct in saying that getting a new plat map would not correct the orientation problem. I understood you to say that the maps you are using with DeedMapper were not always oriented as up being north, and that's why I said what I did. I'm working just across the river in Elbert & Hart Co. GA, and those don't have a north arrow either. I have seen one on the occasional grant plat. Still, the direction of the lines will in fact tell you the orientation although knowing where to start is sometimes problematic. I usually start in the lower left corner and go clockwise, that corner being determined by the orientation of the name of the landowner. On most GA plats the name is inside the plat if it is big enough, and most are. Good luck on setting your plots, Barry Clark Fredericksburg, VA Mr. Clark, I believe what I said was that the plat maps, as recorded in the State of South Carolina plat books, do not indicate north on the individual plats, and that north was not always up on these plats. Obtaining another copy of the plat maps from the state would not correct this. Jim Barrett Bedford, TX parino@flash.net Barrett Surname DNA Project Powell Surname DNA Project
