I am working with some Plat Maps from South Carolina. When I enter the information for most of the maps the calculated area is close to the area shown on the plat. This is very hilly land so I don't expect the area to be exact. Most of the plats appear to use chains as the unit of measure. Two of the plats appear to use a measurement other than chains. When I enter the data for them the calculated area is very low. Here is an example: ! ! Abstracting info. This is about 1/25 the correct value (19.7 * 25 = 492.5). Is there a unit of measure that is equal to 5 chains? One of the lengths is given as 16 1-50- . There is a space between the 16 and the 1.
