    1. RE: [DMU] Purchase and use of DeedMapper
    2. Teresa Ghee Elliott
    3. I found the list to be very helpful when I was having trouble with it. My only problem is finding enough hours in the day to put the data in. <G> I did have trouble with my deeds not closing, but I think that is more a terrain problem, or user error than anything. Also I have yet had time to play with it enough to be thoroughly proficient at it yet. One thing I did like is that once I get the plot mapped out, I can attach it to TMG so that my reader can see what the plot looked like. This can be helpful when parts of land were sold off larger plots within the family. Now does anyone have a solution to that time thing? Even so, I believe my remarks might some day prove useful to someone. With that in mind, I would like to point out to anyone planning to purchase and use DeedMapper that not all folks who purchase the product are able to use it. While I am quite computer literate in Windows environments as well as DOS, I am unable to use DeedMapper. Steve has many times walked me through inputting of data; corrected and edited my fledgling efforts to map out a Duplin Co., NC community; made himself available to me via both e-mail and telephone, and helped in countless other ways. The tutorial and sample were thoroughly studied and completed, at last count, nine times. To date I have been unable to map out my community. Another deeds mapping program has been purchased. I have mapped out about twelve communities, verifying results at the local courthouse land office; however, these are not metes and bounds deed calls, but a modern surveyor's tool. I have no idea why I am unable to use DeedMapper. Certainly, I have tried and do wish I could use the program. 1. [DMU] Color comes and goes...
    2. Marie Robinson
    3. After working on mapping for quite a while today and yesterday, the tract colors started disappearing. Depending on the view (zoomed in or out), some of the colors would come and go. I'm done mapping for the day and I suspect rebooting may help but I'm not going to bother and try that. I have closed and reopened the program though, but that's not helping. I have 1099 tracts. Please don't tell me my file is getting too big and I should reduce it. Well, you can tell me that, but I'll probably just endure it or something. Hopefully it's fixable. I also work with other windows open. Sometimes a couple and sometimes a few. I have ver. 3.0, build 20. Thanks! Marie.

    1. [DMU] Georgia Land Lot System
    2. Paul K. Graham
    3. I'm thinking about purchasing Deed Mapper for research I am doing in Georgia but I had a question about how it would work with our land system. I live in an area where land is divided by districts (very large tracts, 2-4 per county), then within each district are a large number of land lots. Each land lot is a square, 45 chains on each side, or 202.5 acres total. I read that some Deed Mapper maps have the Section/Township/Range boundaries which is helpful for many places, but how would it work with our system? Are there any Georgia maps available that include land lots as a basic map feature? Is anyone on this list doing Georgia research in land lot counties? What is your experience with Deed Mapper in creating these types of boundaries? How do you deal with the difference in land lot sizes and shapes today because of bad surveying 175 years ago? Thanks for your help. Paul

    3. They do go out of town on occasion. I would not worry about the company or their product because you haven't received a response, because I've used it for about three or four years and Steve is VERY responsive to questions. It is an excellent program and your 30 friends really don't need a guinea pig. Ask any of us. It's well worth the money. Your friends will not be unhappy with this program. I love it and used it extensively for genealogy and mapping Pennsylvania townships. 3. I like the Deedmapper maps because they are less cluttered but I keep a set of the USDA topos on hand (paper copies) and make a transparency when I need to look at some of the smaller creeks and branches on various plats. The smaller creeks are crucial to locating some of the plats I work with. What types of things are identified on the maps to help place the plots? I have scanned and used the Topo maps, and I am the first to say it would help to have less clutter. But, having the small creeks is a great help in fine-tuning. Is there a link to a detailed description of the Deed-Mapper maps? I look forward to ordering some of the maps, but wanted to know a little bit more about them. Thanks a bunch JoLee Spears
