Steve, I am so glad you enjoyed the book! I used it to teach in the week-long advanced land platting class at Samford University as part of the Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research, and it made all the difference in the world for them to understand how the surveyors worked and some of their techniques. We had a student who works in the surveying field and it was neat to hear him say "This works! This actually works!" Some of the best information is in the footnotes so I have flags all through the book to bookmark some of them! On February 17, Mike Pierce wrote: Charlotte. In Mayland, one can download copies of the tax map, which shows all current property boundaries. These are available in every state, I'm sure, although sometimes only in paper copies at the Court House. These are particularly useful, since many property lines have not changed since the 1600's. When I've mapped an old deed, I often find its location by fitting it into the current tax map, much like a child's puzzle where there are carved out shapes on a board. Thanks Mike.. I added a Generic text printer, then saved the Table View to that printer. I then renamed the saved file with a .txt extension. I was able to retrieve it into both Monarch and Excel. It will certainly be a big help for my particular need. (If only I had keyed the names of seller/buyer by last name, then first; I'd be able to easily and accurately sort the data as I merge the data of various tables. It may be worth it to go to each deed and re-do the to/from for much greater ease in working with/sorting data.) Greetings Platters and Plotters, Question 1: My desire is to save/export, whatever, the "Table View" of my deed files in such a way that I can pull the table data into one Excel spreadsheet. Is this possible? How? I am aware of the capability of DeedMapper to print the Table View of each deed file after sorting the data into any desired order. But, I wish to combine the "table" data from each of my deed files into one spreadsheet for various uses. Question 2: Is there a way to split a deed file into separate files without using the time-consuming copy/paste feature for each tract? Thanks for any clues. Gene
I beg to differ with your analysis of the metes and bounds. You assume that the bearing of the cord of the arc is due east but the surveyor states that point 3 of the survey is on a tangent to the circle. Therefore the bearing of the cord is calculated to be n70.9e and not due east. The metes and bounds you use makes the area plot about 40 acres too much. Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I will have to try on Monday back at work. I actually had figured out the angle, perimeter and chord (after reviewing my geometry on the internet LOL). I wasn't sure how to translate that into compass directions like Dale and Charlotte did. Surprisingly, this plot is not a subdivision. It is from a 1908 deed and the property is on an old fort. I am attempting to plot various deeds from when the state gave the Feds the land for the fort. I can't believe I get to play with DeedMapper at work! :-) Thanks again, Sara --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Tax Center - File online by April 15th
Thanks a lot, Charlotte. I just never experimented with that Lat/Long feature; it's exactly what I need for the purpose. ----- Original Message ----- From: <searcher@covad.net> To: <DEED-MAPPER-USERS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 16, 2004 12:39 PM Subject: Re: Re[DMU] Help fpr deed with arc > It's just geometry.
