I agree with Jim. The facebook format is TERRIBLE for genealogy! Here is the format that my Scotch-Irish group is switching to….don’t know much about it yet, but I’ll also forward my first post. Hello List Members, I am looking for speakers for the genealogy Seminar the Cherokee County, Texas, Genealogical Society has scheduled for Saturday, April 6, 2019, in the Rusk Public Library (aka Singletary Public Library), 1 block off the courthouse square, in Rusk, Texas. We are in East Texas roughly 50 miles south of Tyler. I got e-mail earlier this week that our previously scheduled speaker has canceled on doctor's orders. The original topic was to be DNA. Speakers on other genealogy program topics will be considered at this time. We have the meeting place reserved and the lunch arrangements made so now I am looking for some other speakers. We had already started some advertising that we had a seminar scheduled and had begun handing out brochures. We can afford to pay for some speaker travel expenses. However, we are not up in the financial status of airline tickets and big speaking fees for nationally known speakers. This is a service to our small membership. We planned on charging $15.00 to cover lunch and room rental and some speaker expense. Our next CCGS monthly meeting is Monday night, February 11th and the group will be making a decision at that time on whether to completely cancel or continue trying to find other speakers. I am a regular subscriber to this list. Thank you for your kind attention to this matter. Vivian Toole Cates, Alto, Texas 1-936-858-3801 1st vice-president, program chairman and publicity, Cherokee County, Texas, Genealogical Society
The File>Print command, along with Ctrl+E, W, N, S, works great for what I needed. I merged the images in Paint and now have a single graphics file with all the images combined. Thanks, Luther Wilhelm
Or print to file and then use your favorite editing software package to arrange the print as you see fit. Just select "Microsoft Print to PDF" as the printer, or your favorite editing software driver as the printer if you have one installed, and it dumps to a file instead of to a printer. You can then edit that file however you want, and annotate it, etc., and chop it up to go to a physical printer. I need to print plot view images either as a single large print or smaller prints that can be joined. I need the scale to be such that a four-digit code for each plat is visible on the printout. Since the plot view covers approximately half of a USGS quad, I need a scale equivalent to about six screen images. I have tried capturing screen images of portions of the plot view, but matching the scale for each is a hassle. Any suggestions. Thanks, Luther Wilhelm
Windows can automatically unzip files when you download them but not tell you it has done so. You think you've got a gz file but it's really an mbl file. So try renaming the file to mbl and see if you can open it in DeedMapper. Hi All, I tried to download some Deedpool GZ. files the last two days using WinZip Triql version to open the files When I clicked on two website files - They did not open to a txt file but opened up Explorer to be saved on my drive , I already started a new folder and .mbl file with no entries. Once in the DM Deedpool directory-- I selected the NWMoore.gz file and tied Winzip to unzip the downloads I then received an error message " Cannot open file- does not appear to be a valid archive _ Try downloading again" I've tried several times with no success-- I also re installed the new trial version (23?) of Winzip- I used it to successfully open zipped files in my folders from elsewhere ( They were Jpeg map files). Is there any changed to deed pool files? I've opened others before-- anyone tried these lately?? Thanks Paul
It does, but it's not as easy as the overlay. I just open the image in a graphics program, and use its line drawing function to draw over the line in question. The graphic program shows the angle of the line being drawn. Photoshop must provide this function. I've been used Paint Shop Pro for several decades now to do this. Mike
In case there are others out there who are platting land from images on your computer screen I thought I'd pass along that there are some apps available to let you measure angles on your computer screen. It's not uncommon for me to come across a drawing with an angle that just doesn't make sense so I'll print it out and measure it by hand with ye old protractor. I've often wished for a protractor-like tool that would overlay my monitor so I could just measure directly on the screen. I finally decided to look for one and found a few options available. The one I decided to use can be found here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/osprotractor/. There's a README file inside the zip that explains how to use it (not that it was hard to figure out) and the options available. Basically, you drag the center point with the left mouse button to set the center of the "protractor" and the center mouse wheel moves the axes by scrolling. I just wish you could set the quadrant that you want the angle to be referenced from, but a little math does the trick just as well. I also found one that is apparently a Chrome add-on. I didn't try it since I use Photoshop to manipulate the images and I wanted something that would overlay the whole screen and not just be available in my browser. Greg Matthews
