    3. Jeri: I am fairly sure that your Luke Decker is the son of Jan (John) Decker Jr. b. 1719 and Dina Kuykendall b 1719. Here's what I know about him: ------------------ "The Decker Genealogy" by Adm. Benton Weaver Decker, 1980. Pages copied from the volume at the Library of Congress. KB & KM = Baptismal & Marriage Registers of the Old Dutch Curch of Kingston, NY by Roswell Randolph Hoes. (KB=baptism, KM=marriage) The Adm. used a numbering system based on the individual's sequence of birth in his family. Your Luke is, I fairly sure, number G-1-2-3-9. G Jan Gerretsen Decker b. bef 1640, d. 1717 Port Jervis [NJ?], immigrant from Heerden, Gelderland, Holland, m. 1664 in Esopus (KM13) to Grietjen Hendricks Westecamp, dau of Hendrick Janse & Femmetje Albertse. 6 children. First child was: G-1 Gerret Jansen Decker b 1665 (KB51) in Esopus m1 1685 Margaret (Greitje) Jans Decker b 1664 (KB43) dau of Lieut. Jans Broersen Decker & Heltje Jacobs. He m2 1707 Christina Pruyer. 4 children of m1. Second child was: G-1-2 Jan Gerretsen Decker b 1688 (KB581) d Romney, WV. Ulster Militia 1715. m1 1711 Barbara DeWitt b 1692 (KB710) dau of Jan & Wyntje Kierstad. m2 Margaret Kline, wid of Benjamin Ackerli. 5 children of m1. Third child was: G-1-2-3 Jan Decker Jr. b 1719 (KB2670) d 1790 Knox Co., IN. m 1739 (M98) Dina Kuykendall b 1719 dau of Jacob & Sara Westfael d 1797. Rev. Vet. 10 children: Tobias 1740, Elisabeth 1741, Barbara 1743 (M3), Isaac, Joseph 1752, Abraham, Susannah, Moses, ***Luke 1760***, John 1767. G-1-2-3-9 Luke Decker (Someone else will have to continue this line for you. It probably continues on page 21, but my line is g-1-2-5, so I skipped from page 4 to page 22 in my copying. I can assure you, though, that most of Luke's children are not listed, because page 22 begins with: G-1-2-3-9-2 Dr. Hiram Decker 1794 (Knox Co) d. 1683 m. 1819 Eliza Kuykendall dau of Dr. Jacob Kuykendall and Catherine Decker. (Same Family as G-1-2-5-1-1-1) The very next listing is for G-1-2-3-10, Luke's brother John b. 1767. Probably all that is listed on page 21 is Luke's first child G-1-2-3-9-1 and that child's descendents, maybe only one generation. ------------------ I have run into Jan Jr. & his son Luke several times, because I thought that my John Decker moved to Knox Co., IN in 1784 with your family. However, subsequent search of the IGI showed that my John was still in WV having kids in 1798. This is mine, according to BW Decker: G-1-2-5 Lucas Decker b. 1727 (KB3643) d. 1751 m. Sarah. She m2 Lawrence Hass. One child of Lucas & Sarah: G-1-2-5-1 John Decker b. 1750 m. 1774 to Hannah Harness [first cousin to your Luke, nephew to Jan Decker & Dina Kuykendall] ------------------ The DAR Patriot Index, 1982 p. 184, corrected in the 1982 Corrections, p. 65 show (when you pull out all the errors that the DAR has corrected): [A] Decker, John (Jan), Sr: bpt 6-7-1819 d bef 9-30-1790 m Dina (Blandina) Kuykendall. Patriotic Service, VA. [This appears to be your Luke's father, G-1-2-3] [B] Decker, John: b 1750 d Dec 1817 m Hannah Kuykendall. Patriotic Service, VA. This man was the son of Luke Decker. [This may be my John G-1-2-5-1, son of Lucas, who m. Hannah Harness, despite the Kuykendall/Harness thing, because DAR originally had your Sarah's last name as Kuykendall, too.] [C] Decker, Luke: b ca. 1760 d. aft 1825 m1 Sarah Harness m2 Trenny Claypool. Ensign VA. [This seems to be your Luke, G-1-2-3-9] ------------------ "Pioneer Ancestors of the Members of the Society of Indiana Pioneers," compiled by Ruth Dorrel, published 1983 by Family History Section, Indiana Historical Society, 315 W. Ohio St., Indianapolis, IN 46202 lists five Deckers: Decker, John b 1750 VA, settled 1784 in Knox Co., IN [This is the one I used to think was my family. Don't know who he is. BW Decker shows G-1-2-3-10 John as b. 1767. But 1992 IGI shows John Decker, son of Jan Decker/Dina Kuykendall as b <1753>. So this could be brother to your Luke.] Decker, John b 1791 Knox Co., IN, was member of IN State Legislature, Knox Co. sheriff. [Is this a son of your Luke?] Decker, John (Garretson) b 1719 NY, settled 1784 Knox Co., IN, prev. lived PA, served in War of Revolution. [G-1-2-3, your Luke's father] Decker, Joseph b ca. 1750 VA, settled 1784 Knox Co., IN, prev. lived PA, served in War of Revolution. [per BW Decker, G-1-2-3-5 Joseph (brother of your Luke) was b. 1752. This is probably him] Decker, Luke b ca. 1760 VA, settled 1784 Knox Co., IN, prev. lived PA, served in War of Revolution & Battle of Tippecanoe. [G-1-2-3-9, your Luke] ------------------ This, then, is my interpretation of the Indiana Pioneers & DAR records, along with the BW Decker stuff. If you have records that are more clear on this, let me know. Rhonda Tomlinson [email protected]
