Dear Researchers, Cornelia DECKER/DEKKER married Simeon DUTCHER on August 18, 1790. The marriage is recorded at two Reformed churches, those of Greenbush and Schodack Landing (only the latter entry confirms the bride's given name). There are promising clues as to the family of Cornelia. In the estate papers of Isaac DECKER deceased intestate in July 1804 in Schodack, NY, there is an affidavit from Simeon Dutcher stating that the decedent was his brother-in-law. Also mentioned in these papers are a brother Jacob DECKER, about whom nothing else is known. According to Simeon's Rev. War pension file, before coming to Schodack he had lived in Claverack in Columbia County, and the Claverack church records a child Ephraim, born 1786 by his first wife Margareta KUHN (prob. daughter of Adam KUHN and Margaretta VAN DER HOEF) Meanwhile, a Cornelia DECKER had been christened at Claverack in 20 April 1766, daughter of a Hendrick DECKER and Catherine (VAN) VREDENBURGH (ca. 1743- , daughter of Isaac VAN VREDENBURGH and Geesjen PIER). Catherine's father Isaac and stepmother Cornelia WHITBECK were sponsors. Hendrick and Catherine had five other children from various sources: i. Isaac DECKER was born about 1767 in Columbia Cty, NY. (m. Catharine BRISEE) ii. Geesje DECKER was born about 1772 in Columbia Cty, NY. iii. Hendrick DECKER was born on 26 MAY 1779 in Columbia Cty, NY. iv. Catrina DECKER was born on 27 DEC 1781 in Livingston, Columbia Cty, NY. v. Petrus DECKER was born about 1789 in Dutchess Cty, NY. These are in addition to the Cornelia b.c. 1766 and her possible brother Jacob. "Hendrick Dekker and Catlyntje Dekker" sponsored the baptism of one of Simeon and Cornelia's children at the Greenbush Church in 1791. What is desired is better confirmation that Simeon's wife Cornelia is the same as Hendrick and Catherine's daughter Cornelia, although it does seem quite probable already. And if they are indeed the same -- who are the parents of the elder Hendrick DECKER? David See (with help from a couple of cousins) [email protected] http://pages.preferred.com/~dsee/genie.html
