What a great idea! After a homestyle Pennsylvania Dutch dinner (chicken bot boi), I would ask my second great grandfather, John Decker (1833 -1896) these questions: 1. Why and when did you leave Adams County and move to Lancaster County? (John is found in 1850 residing with his parents, John and Sophia Groscost Decker in Oxford Twp. , Adams County, but by 1860, he's living in Manheim Twp., Lancaster County and working as a miller.) 2. What can you tell me about your Decker grandparents, uncles and aunts? Is it true that your aunt, Christiana Decker, was the second wife of your Groscost grandfather, Daniel? 3. How and when did you meet your wife, Emma Erisman? Did you know each other before you enlisted with the 77th Pennsylvania Infantry in the fall of 1861? (John and Emma married on 23 February 1864 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania during his reenlistment furlough.) 4. Were you able to spend time with brother, Levi, at Murfreesboro while the 77th and 79th were encamped there? Were you in the battles of Shiloh and Chickamauga? When did you find out that Levi was captured during the latter conflict and imprisoned at Danville? What were your experiences as a wagoner during the siege at Chattanooga and later campaigns of the 77th? In addition I'd ask many questions about Emma and the children and their everyday life in Lancaster County during the latter half of the 19th century. Judy Baker
