    1. Re: [DECKER-L] Andrew Decker
    2. >> In going over some saved e-mail recently, I think it's time to follow up on the Deckers of Columbia Co. NY, of Scotch/English origin. Since there are so many Deckers of Dutch ancestry, can anyone tell me if the Deckers in this area are mostly Dutch or not? Early censuses in Columbia Co. have a lot of Deckers, and I wonder whether they represent one family or many. I have a John A. (or Henry?) Decker, b. 1838 in Ancram, near Copake. He married Susan Goodrich of Springfield, MA and had the following children: Mary J. Decker, William Henry Decker, Laura E. Decker, and Grace B. Decker. John was a supervisor in a paper mill, and son William followed in his footsteps. The family seemed to move fairly often, including Massachusetts (Berkshire Co.), Ohio, NY (Onondaga Co.) and Canada, always associated with paper mills. John had a brother 10 years younger named James T. Decker, who married Carrie ? and had Nellie, William, and Arthur as children. According to the 1880 census, both families were then in Lee, MA. working for a paper mill. Annie San Jose, CA
