I have one other question for you. There were two Elizabeth Decker's age 8 listed on this census of 1870. Where does the other Elizabeth fit in? Could it have been an error on the part of the census taker? I will try and contact the author of the book you mentioned in a previous post. Maybe that would help to put in order some of the names I've found on various census years. Thank you again for your help.

The book "The Decker Family of Grayson County, Kentucky" by Downs goes a long way toward sorting out some of them. It also mentions about 50 Saltsman names. (I gave the address of the author in a previous post in this thread.) Regarding the 1870 census: Jane Decker 36 is Amanda Jane Decker, Isaac's sister. Elizabeth and John B. are Isaac's children by his second wife Nancy Allen (who died sometime between the birth of daughter Cansada in December 1869 and the census which was taken in August 1870.)

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hgR.2ACIB/1823.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Mary, I am a descendant of John A. "Jack" Decker, brother of Isaac Decker, Sr., Richard's father. The "Decker Family of Grayson County, Kentucky" (Barry Downs 1243 McGrew Church Road Leitchfield KY 42754) gives references for many statements but not about the Blains. The entry in "Historical Sketches and Family Histories of Grayson County, Kentucky" (Grayson County Historical Society P.O. Box 84 Leitchfield KY 42755) on the Blain family was written by Jim Blain. (Info in parentesis above are the addresses where the books can be ordered.) Also, I checked the 3 volumes on Cemeteries of Grayson County Kentucky (published by the Grayson County Historical Society) and neither Isaac Decker or Deborah Blain Decker's burial site is listed. I know from Census records that Isaac Decker lived in western Grayson County in the Falls of Rough/ Yeaman/ Spring Lick area. Also, the Blain family lived near Falls of Rough, so Deborah is apparently buried in the area, her grave either unmarked, unrea! dable or missed by the people who did the cemeteries books. As to why Isaac's sons by Deborah did not live with him after his second marriage to Nancy Allen (they married 7-7-1861) I haven't a clue. Their ages in the 1860 census were: John T.M. 09; Levi C 06; Richard M 04; Hamilton 01. Also, Isaac's second wife died shortly before the 1870 census and he was AGAIN a widower in 1870, the youngest child, daughter Cansada, was 5 months old when the census was taken. If we knew exactly when Richard (and other siblings) went to live with the Blain relatives, we might have a better idea whether it was for economic reasons or they preferred to live with Blain relatives. Right now, most of what I have about Deborah's children is what is in the Decker Family book and census records but am interested in learning more since they're part of the family tree. The Decker Family book does not list a "Marion" in Isaac's family but based on the age, if he was a son of Deborah & Isaac, he would be John T.M. Decker, born @ 1851. Lowell Decker

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hgR.2ACIB/1823.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks so much for all the info on Richard Decker and Wm T Blain. Are you a descendant of Isaac Decker? Does the book, The Decker Family of Grayson County, Kentucky, give any sources for the information contained in it? Also the book - Historical Sketches and Family Histories of Grayson County, Kentucky - is there any information as to who wrote the various family histories in it? I agree that John Blain, father of Deborah Blain Decker, was quite possibly a brother of Wm Caldwell Blain. In fact, I have seen lists of the siblings of Wm Caldwell that include a John, but with no further information or any source. I would like to find something that shows that John, father of Deborah, and John, brother of Wm C, are one and the same John. That would answer some questions about the life of Richard Decker. I do have some information on Richard Decker (who was later known as Richard Blain ), his later life in Kansas and Oklahoma, that I would be glad to share. Does The Decker Family book have anything on the other children of Isaac and Deborah Decker (as listed in 1860 census)? In 1870 (when Richard Decker was living with the Wm T Blain family), a Marion Decker, 19, was living with the D W Blain family in Richland co Illinois. (D W Blain was a brother of Wm Caldwell Blain). In an 1868 letter that DW Blain writes to his brother, Wm C Blain, back in Ky, he includes a request to' tell Mr Decker that his boys are doing well.' Is there any clue as to why Isaac Decker apparently did not keep his boys from his first marriage to Deborah? (In 1870, he has remarried and has a whole new list of children). I would like to find what happened to them also, because, if John Blain is in fact a brother of Wm C Blain, these descendants of Deborah are Blain relatives and I would like to include them in our tree. Does the Decker book say where Deborah Blain Decker is buried? Thanks again for all the information. Mary Shackelton

Mott and Margaret with children: James H., Mary J., Elizabeth (Betsy), Francis M., John, Vida, Geo. W. My gg-grandfather was born in 1861. I have him in the 1880 census for Crittenden KY. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hgR.2ACIB/1823.1 Message Board Post: Mary, I don't have anything beyond 1870 on Richard at this time. Here's what I do have. According to Downs, The Decker Family of Grayson County Kentucky, page 124, RICHARD M. DECKER was born @ 1856 s/o ISAAC D. DECKER SR & DEBORAH BLAIN. Deborah Blain was born about 1829, died 7 May 1860. She was the daughter of John and Catherine Blain. In the 1850 Grayson Co. KY census, Isaac & Debora, both listed as age 20, were living in the home of her mother, Catherine, who was listed as as age 45, head of household (James having died before then.) RICHARD M. DECKER in listed in 1860 GRAYSON COUNTY KY census FALLS OF ROUGH district, June 16 1860 as age 4, living in the home of his father Isaac Decker Senior (his mother Deborah had died the month before). Also living in the household was Dorcas Smith Decker, Richard's paternal grandmother. Don't have any info about his descendants. Ancestry: RICHARD M. DECKER was s/o ISAAC D. DECKER Sr s/o BARNETT DECKER s/o JOHN DECKER, Sr. s/o HENDRICK "HENRY" DECKER s/o HERMANUS DECKER s/o JAN GERRITSEN DECKER William T. Blain was born @ 1833 in KY s/o William Caldwell Blain & Sarah Chapman Herndon. He is listed in the 1850 Grayson Co. KY census, Falls of Rough area, living at home, age 17. He is not listed in the 1860 Grayson County census, so far as I can find. According to Historical Sketches and Family Histories of Grayson County, Kentucky, p. 184, published by the Grayson County Historical Society, 2002, William Caldwell Blain was the first of the Blain family to own land in Grayson Co. He was the son of James Blain. William C., Sarah, and six of their 10 children are buried in Eskridge Cemetery near Falls of Rough in Grayson County. William Caldwell Blain was born 9-15-1794 in South Carolina, died 6-29-1874. Sarah was born 1-28-1811 d/o Traverse & Nancy Nash (Eskridge) Herndon, died 10-4-1892. (Grayson County Kentucky Cemeteries, Volume 1, p.59 (publishe by the Grayson County Kentucky Historical Society.) According to "Historical Sketches" p.184, the Grayson County Blains were from South Carolina and both William Caldwell & his father James Blain enlisted in the Kentucky Army during the War of 1812 and after the war many of the Blain family remained in Kentucky. Based on her age (born @ 1805), Catherine Blain's husband James was probably the son of James Blain & brother of William Caldwell. IF this is correct, and it is only a guess, then Deborah and William T. Blain would be cousins. However, as I said, this is only a guess on my part. In the 1870 census, Richard was living with William T. Blain in Livermore, McLean Co. KY: Blain, William T. 38 farmer; wife Martha E. 31; John C. 7; James M. 5; Willie F. 3; Sallie 6 months; DECKER, Richard M. 14. Lowell Decker
