I'm trying a backdoor approach to track my grandfather since I can't find him directly. From the 1930 census, his sister (married and living in Richmond, VA at the time) is listed as being born in Iowa. So now, I'm looking for a Decker family in Iowa with these children and birthdates: Glen Earl Decker, b 1880 Bertha Virginia Decker, b 1882 Does this sound familiar to anyone out there??? Maggie Maggie Toussaint
I'm not getting my mail from this site, why?

The name Decker in German is pronounced Day-ker(almost) and not Deck-er as it is in English. Sometimes it is difficult to write in one language when you are thinking in another language as may have been the case of the obit writer.

IN. A brother, Fred Decker (spelled Deaker, but I hope that is wrong as I can't find that name anywhere), is listed in my husband's great great grandmother's obit (1902 in Clark Co. IL) We believe that must have been Anna Maria Macke's maiden name. She was married to John Henry Macke in 1846. She was born in Hanover Germany in about 1821, came to OH in 1846, and lived in Cincinnati and in Ripley Co. for a while in the 1850s before going back to OH and then coming to IL. in the 1870s. They had a sister, Henrietta who married Fred Lubbe and lived in Ripley Co. and later in Dearborn Co. as did her daughter, Sophia, who married a Willmann. I am hoping that some of these names sound familiar or that you can tell me when the Decker family moved from OH to IN. Thanks for any help. Eleanor

I do not know where in NY they hailed. They had their children there, prior to their move to Michigan. He was 58 yrs old in 1860 and married to Mary who was 53 yrs old (I believe her maiden name to be Lacey). The children listed were: Jacob, 25 yrs old Lansing, 17 yrs old Lucinda, 15 yrs old I found what I believe to be the same family in an 1850 census record for Landstown (?), Jackson County, Michigan. The ages for the children listed above coincide, though they misstated the youngest two children's names (I believe). The census read: William, 49 yrs Mary, 47 yrs Stephen, 20 yrs Jacob, 15 yrs Melissa, 13 yrs Harriet, 10 yrs Hanson, 8 yrs (Lansing?) Florinda, 5 yrs (Lucinda?) The elder daughters likely married and moved out, along with Stephen. This is all I have on my William Decker -- don't know where/how to find him in NY - yet! Am looking for a breakthrough and hope our lines intersect, though the info I've given you may not be enough to know... Here's hoping.
