I'm beginning to think there was only ever a Decker who was named Isaac! [Joke folks] I wonder if any other Decker researchers have got back to the old country? I am researching FRIEDRICH DECKER born 1829 Rugenwalde, Pomerania, Prussia. His father was Fritz Decker. Friedrich aka Fritz was a seaman and left his ship in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in 1856 to marry Maria LORKE a passenger on the ship he was working on. Does anyone want to join up with me? Jenny from the sunny Blue Mountains [ the temperature here yesterday was 36 degrees celsius. Not that I am gloating...]
Someone posted a query about DECKERs in Hancock Co, Ohio on Jan 27th. I accidentally deleted it. Could you please contact me. I have DECKERs in Hancock, and Van Wert Co, Ohio. Van Wert Co is just west of Hancock. I wondered if we connected. The McGuires [email protected]
I'm new to this. Lorraine Claxton,Ma. gave me Isaac Decker"s b. year as 1820-22. He married her gguncle was Isaac. From the family records she furnished the following. Isaac Decker married Eliza Pennington b. 21 Nov. 1824 according to the 1860 censustaken in Overfield twp., Wyoming cty. Pa. Isaac was 38, Eliza as 46, Ann-15, Jane-13, Charles-11, Esther-6, George-4, and female-2. The 1870 census Isaac was50 and Eliza 46, A.A.-13, M.A.-10, J.A.-10, F.A.-7, I.K._5, S.A.-3. I matched Charles with the Fairview Cemetery, Mill City,Pa. B.1849 d. 1914 Rozetta A. 1852-1915 Wife, F.A. matches Frances Amelda Decker Avery b. May 3, 1862 died Sept 25, 1893, Andrew was born Jan. 27, 1864 Howard was born 1869-1942. Howard and Laura Smith 1869-1897 had William abt.1889 and George Lewis Decker Feb. 27, 1893. The Deckers from the Ransom, Newton, Falls, Overfield twps, ofLackawanna Wyoming formerly Luzerne Counties.,PA. George (1893) was my grandfather he had 4 daughters and ended the endly Deckers in our side. The Deckers came from Sussex N.J. H.S. Decker is listed as an early settler from Sussex in the local history book. Secondly, my relatives the Paines settled the Painesville (Northeast) section of Ohio. Many trips were made back to the home lands for relatives or wives. I notice names in Sussex county N.J. that could be related to my grandmother after her family settled that part of Ohio. Maybe you can help me to go back further. Sandra LaCoe [email protected]
Okay,kids---now I want to throw another mix into this mess---! In the Decker family Bible from Stephen O. & Mary Crawford Decker, on one of the pages the following is written & then crossed out(!!!) Abram HANES Dalus(or Datus) BATERSHALL borned Sept the 26 1827 HANES borned July 23 1855 Rachel Ann HANES Francis Almora(?) HANES borned March the 14 1845 borned Feb. the 3 1859 Do these names mean ANYTHING to anyone??? I have looked for these folks in vain & have no clue as to who they were, why they were orginally in the Decker Bible & why on earth were they crossed out??? The handwriting does not appear to be that of Stephen who obviously wrote in the remainder of the info within the pages. Mary could neither read nor write, & I have compared the handwriting with some letters he wrote. He also did not use the term "borned." Marilynn
Thanks for sharing the Decker Bible info with us. Is will be of help to many of the Decker researchers. Marilynn
Thanks, Sharon, for clearing up the Butler Cty. question & as I stated yesterday, our Isaac could certainly have been living there. Marilynn
Pam--- Our elusive Isaac b. 1785 did not have a son named George---at least not in any of the existing records. Marilynn
Am trying to help a fellow DECKER who does not have a computer. He is looking for the parents of: Jerusha DECKER 1763-1812. We believe Jerusha to have been born in the Machackemack RDC (Deerpark) NY area since her spouse was baptized in the Mach. Church. Jerusha DECKER m. ca 1780 in Washington Co., PA, James LEYDA, 1759-1835 (James was bap. in the Mach. RDC on 27 Jan 1759, Wit: Jacobus van Ake and Catrina van Aeke). A 2nd son was named David and a 3rd son was named Abraham. Jerusha (DECKER) LEYDA died 27 Apr 1812 and is buried in Dunningsville, Washington Co., PA which is approx. 25 miles south of Pittsburgh. Wondering if her name could possible have really been "Janche" at birth? Aside, her spouse, James LEYDA, is the 1st born child of Arriantje ROSENKRANS, 1736-1768 and John LEYDA, 1732-1810. My friend has been looking for a few years. Can anyone help solve his mystery please? Reply to, and thanks in advance, Cynthia (RV4cats @aol.com)
Decker Cousins...........Just found this in my dlownload as I was "house cleaning". The sender (to me) got it in photocopy form from PERSI...If anyone wishes to contact the original sender, Email me please. Cynthia PETER DECKER FAMILY BIBLE RECORD Peter Decker, born Oct. 12, 1772. James Chambers d. ?? ??? 1856(?) Dundaff, Susquehannah Co., Pa. 1/2 of the line listing the death of James Chambers above is missing and that's the end of the photocopy. I can tell, though, that he died in 1856 in Dundaff. I think Isaac and Catherin Hoffman Decker must have been the parents of Julia's husband, Joseph H. Decker. I think James and Selina Lee Chambers must have been the parents of Julia herself. Their children were Franklin, Marshall, Luzetta, Frances, Emily, Lulu, Minerva and Joseph Henry.

Cousins researching this Isaac, There was an Isaac in Butler County in 1807. Esther Benzing, Butler Co., Archivist, in 1962, discovered census records hidden away in an old fireplace that had been closed for years in the Courthouse. Photostats of these papers were made and are bound together and stored in the Butler Co., Recorder's office. It lists a code for the township of residence together with the person who did the listing. It shows the head of the household and the number of wihte males age 21 and over. Deckers listed: Benjamin Decker 1 Liberty township John and Isaac Decker 2 Liberty township Land records are in the possession of the Butler Co. recorders office. Has anyone already obtained Land records for these men? =============== The Butler County 1810 Tax List recorded Sept. 15, 1810 Benjamin Decker John and Isaac are missing. Though John is listed in the 1809 Census index. Could this be our Isaac? Could he have returned to NJ before 1809, married and returned to Ohio later? Sharon [email protected]

I only page 103 of this book. Page 104 may have more Decker names. 1798, Oct. 18. DECKER, Stephen of Wantage, Sussex Co.; will of. Wife, PHEBE, remainder of personal and real, while widow. Daughter, Catea Decker, one milch cow, bed and bedding. To children, i.e., PETER, James, Frederick, Jacob, Nelly Catterlin, JANE Willson and Catea Decker, 20 dollars each. Sons, Wilhelmus and Joel, real and residue divided between them after wife's decease or marriage. Executors - wife, Phebe, son, Wilhelmus, and friend Benjamin Coykendall. Witness - William Brady, Joseph Decker, Robison Brady. Proved Dec. 4, 1898. Reference # Lib. 38, p. 180. The Peter Decker article is from the National Gen. Soc. Quarterly, published Dec.1984 Vol. 72, #4. Copies can still be obtained from the NGS. This Peter or Petrus was the acknowledged founder of Deckertown which has become the town of Sussex according to the article. It states, ".....serious errors have been made about the identity of Peter's son Samuel. This paper is an effort to begin remedying both defects in Decker research and to present evidence for one line of descent from Peter Decker (Peter, Samuel, Stephen, John S., Walter S.)" Peter married Magdalena Oosterhout, ca. 1732 or 33. Children: Martynus bp. Jan 20, 1734; Maria (Mary) bp. May 18, 1736; Catharina bp. May 31, 1738; Josias (Joseph?) bp June 17, 1740; Henderikus (Henry) pb. Feb 6 1743; Annetje (Hannah) pb Jan 20, 1745; Helena bp. June 21, 1747; Samuel bp. Sept 27 1749. The article continues with the line of Samuel, who m. Jannetje Cortrecht (Cortright). Futher states: There was another Samuel Decker in Northhampton Co., PA. Bp. dated Feb 3, 1745. He was son of Benjamin and Lena Kortrecht Decker. No futher info on this Samuel is given. I hope something here is helpful to someone. Sharon [email protected]
Hello to all- I am taking a few minutes away from the TV & the DENVER BRONCOS Victory Parade, to answer, at least in part, my e-mail. (Wow---wasn't that a game???!!!|) Sharon, do you mean Butler Cty. PA.? Of course, it is entirely possible that Isaac somehow was in PA. & then moved (back?) to N.J. to marry Hannah & start a family. We all know so little about his early life that we must consider every possibility. I refer everyone to Chas.E. Stickney's book OLD SUSSEX COUNTY FAMILIES which is available at most good libraries. Altho', as with all secondary sources, care & caution must be used. These books are great for springboards to further research, but are certainly not usually the gospel--so to speak. I have a copy of the book & have just now pulled it off the shelf for some perusal. There is mention of "Petrus"--- Peter & "Stephanus"--Stephen. Maybe at last, we are all on to something. I think Sharon's supposition & Butler Cty. PA. bears further research. Back to the TV for now. Our daughter & her boyfriend are down there in that mob which they estimate at about 700,000 or over & the TV folks are stating they do not know how they are going to get back to the stations to do the early news!!! Some fun--I'm just glad I am here & not there. But boy, are we proud of our football team & they terrific job they did Sunday. It's been a long time coming. Enough of that. I am not sure if I sent this correctly before. I have made a couple of corrections. I live in Ransom township Lackawanna County Pennsylvania. I too have an Isaac Decker in my tree. My grandfather George Decker son of Howard Decker and Grandson of Isaac Decker, gave me an interest in this subject. Jan. 13, 1998 Lorraine Claxton from MA gave me this family tree addition her grandfather was Isaac's brother-in-law. She sent the following cenus information: Eliza Williams Decker Daughter of John C. and Pennington Williams born Nov. 21, 1824 married Isaac Decker born 1820/1822 census 1860 Wyoming County Pa Isaac Decker 38, Eliza, 34, ann-15., Jane 13, Charles-11, Esther-6, George-4, and a female-2. The 1870 census was not as good as only the initials of the children were listed. It listed Isaac as 50 and Eliza as 46 (this is a discrepency with the 1860 census.)according to Lorraine's chart. Children A.A.-13 M.A.-10, J.A.-10, F.A.-7,I.K.-5, S.A.-3. F.A.-7 matches Frances Amelda born May 3, 1862 and died Sept. 25, 1893. I.K. matches the age of Andrew Decker born Jan 27, 1864. Howard was born 1869 d. 1942.I also found Charles tombstone 1849-1914, m. Rozeta 1852-1915 and dau.Pearl A. 1889-1977. Frances m. Solomon Avery. Howard m. Laura Smith(1869-1897). Howard had George Lewis born Feb 27, 1893 in Mill City, Pa. and William born ab. 1889. Andrew had Hannah, Pearl, Frances, Liza Doris and I may not have them all. I have more names dates and marriages if needed. I need Isaac's father back in Susssex N.J. because Deckers were among the first settlers here. Look a Newton, Ransom, Falls, Mill City areas in Wyoming, Lackawanna, and Luzerne counties, Pa. Sandra LaCoe [email protected]
In a message dated 98-01-27 03:01:11 EST, you write: << Jason, I am sure it is possible. My Isaac from Sussex County, didn't name any of his son's Peter however. None of the other male names you mention are in his family. He had 7 son's to our knowledge. I wonder what the N. was for? Possibly Newton? There was or is a township by this name in Sussex County. Somewhere is this house, I have a reprinted account (NGS, I think.) of the Emigrant Peter Decker of New Jersey. I believe he predates your Peter, but may be his ancestor. I will search for that document. It gives many of his descendants, but not all, of course. >> I would like that document about the Emigrant Peter Decker if you can find it. :-) One source says that my Peter the older was born in 1750 so it is possible. Yes I think it is possible that Isaac N. 's middle name was Newton. One source gives John P.'s middle name as Peter and Chilieon B. 's middle name as Blauvelt. But I am not sure because I think it was a guess not a fact. Thank you, Jason
Del You mentioned having a child named Lafayette in your Decker line. I have a William LAFAYETTE Decker that was born Oct. 18, 1851, in Ohio. I don't yet know his parents. He settled in Van Wert Co, in the upper half of Ohio, near the Indiana border. He married Amanda Moomey. Some of his children settled in Findlay, Ohio area. Do you have anything on the descendents of the Deckers that you listed in your query? Thank you.
