Hi I subscribed to this list yesterday and have not seen any messages posted yet and so, being the impatient person that I am, I thought that I would post my message to see if there is any response. All I know is that my DANIEL DECKER married CATHERINE ANN ALSTON ON 24 Nov 1839. Catherine was born 9 Jul 1820 died 17 Oct 1902. Their children were: i. Albert Alston Decker b. 15 Jan 1841 ii. Charity Ann Decker b. 1 Sep 1845 d. 18 Oct 1928 m. 29 Oct 1865 Robert Knight iii. Emily Jane Decker b. 27 Jul 1848 m. Brinckerhoff. They are all from Staten Island. I am quite certain that Daniel Decker descends from Johannes de Decker who arrived in New Amsterdam on the Swarte Arent April 1655 but I need a bit of help with it. Is there anyone familiar with this Decker line? Edward Coates Sinker - email: [email protected] Church Lea - GOONS: #2820 Bosbury - Shropshire Family History Society: #3473 Herefordshire HR8 1PX U. John Decker <[email protected]> My server indicates it couldn't connect to your URL. I've only been on the Decker rootsweb list for 2 or 3 weeks, but have been trying to find the Rear Adm (Ret)B W Decker book since this summer. On a trip to Hardy Co, WV, I came across several references (letters) to research being done by him in the public library at Hardy. Is the book still in print and/or can copies of it be made? My particular interest is in (1) "Col" Luke Decker b 1760 in Hardy Co, WV, d aft 25 mar 1825 in Knox Co, IN. He m. in 1781/82 one Sarah Harness b abt 1759/60 in WV. They had eight children (listed partially in/from two sources) . One supposedly was Daniel Decker b 1785, d abt 1860/70 in Delaware or Morrow Co, OH. He married in WV 13 Dec 1809 Maryann Yoakum b 25 May 1787, d abt 1860/70 Morrow Co, Oh. This couple also had eight children. I have names for only five of them. Does this info check out against the info in Adm Decker's book? I certainly would appreciate a listing on all Lukes and Daniels such as the one you sent out to the list on all Isaacs. Know this is a lot to ask. Any thing you do for me would be greatly appreciated. I have the ancestors down to/ and up from this point. Need now only to correctly connect them. Anxiously awaiting word from you. Jeri
Great idea Marilynn! I think we are all in over our heads sometimes. MAL
Hey, RV4cats! what a great piece of humor about the census taker. I always knew it was spelling that was throwing us all off. Who knows how our names were spelled in the beginnings. It is like the game we played as kids..you sit in a circle and start a sentence around the circle and see how it ends up. It usually does not resemble what the first person started with. Anyone remember that game? I am going to investigate every possible spelling of the names I find that remotely resemble my surnames. Thanks for making my day. Mary Ann
Thanks for sharing the census stories. I printed it so I could carry it with me whenever I am researching the census--it will be a reminder of those poor souls who were in over their heads!!! Marilynn
Census Takers--True Stories The Texas 1850 Federal Census schedule, Volume 3, written by H. Swaringen, Asst. Marshall, 23 October 1850 contains this note written by the census taker. Are you still wondering why you can not find your ancestors on the census?
Another possibility-the family had to sell their possessions for some reason? ---------- > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected]; [email protected] > Subject: Re: [DECKER-L] Re: Isaac DECKER of Ohio > Date: Thursday, January 29, 1998 11:32 AM > > Thanks to all who opened my eyes to my HANES-BATERSHALL question. > > It has never occured to me that Stephen may have been given this bible by a > Hanes & he merely crossed out what they had written in. Hi DECKER researchers: For those of you hunting the 'elusive' Isaac DECKER. I thought it may be of some use to you to have all of the Isaac's listed in Admiral Benton Weaver Decker's "The Decker Genealogy-1980". Thanks to all who opened my eyes to my HANES-BATERSHALL question. It has never occured to me that Stephen may have been given this bible by a Hanes & he merely crossed out what they had written in. But still, that seems quite odd to me---why would a family give away their family bible??? Don't you all agree that there almost had to be a close connection between the families? I would certainly never give my family bible to just anyone! Ah well, another question in the continuing Decker mystery. Marilynn
Marilynn, Could the HANES and BATERSHALLs have been the original owners of the family Bible? Perhaps it was given as a gift? These folks may have been neighbors. Do they appear in a census living close by? Judy

Today was his first request, and he sent 25 requests to the Decker list in a matter of minutes. I have not one idea what the problem was. Sorry to everyone, but I wasn't at the computer when this mess happened. Judy
Please remove Terry Nelson ([email protected]) from our list, I received 28 messages from him/her asking to be removed from all the different "chains". Lucky my mailbox was empty at the time. I wonder if anyone else had a problem because of it. If this happens again, I will unsub from all lists, thanks for your consideration. MAL
Please take my E-mail off your chain. Thank you.
